This wonderful turnip has been a treasure for gardeners in the know since before 1859. This plant produces abundant yields of uniformly shaped 3-4 inch roots that are an enchanting golden/amber color inside and out. The delicate yet meaty flesh of this root vegetable has a sweet, never woody, taste. Golden Ball turnips have the best flavor when small, so pick early (this holds true for the turnip greens as well). They are exceptional mashed with butter and onions or leeks. This variety keeps well, so stash some away for late winter or spring.
