Outdoor Control
Outdoor ant control begins with identifying the items luring them or their source. Ants may be attracted to honeydew produced by aphids, scale, mealybugs or whitefly, or the presence of ripening fruit or floral nectar. In these instances, control the pest or remove the food source and proceed if needed. Ants will often leave the area once their food is gone.
Controlling Ants Outdoors:
- Place granular insecticides (Essentria G, Monterey Ant Control) around target areas. They work through contact or ingestion.
- If ants are getting onto plants, Tangle-Trap can be applied to the base of stems/trunks as a barrier to marauding ants.
- Spinosad applications kill on ingestion and can be used if needed.
