The adults of white grubs are commonly Japanese Beetle, May/June beetles or a type of chafer. The larva (grub stage) are detritivores, but can damage lawn and garden areas by feeding on plant roots. Adult beetles feed on over 275 plant species including roses, ornamentals, deciduous fruit trees, vegetables, grasses, and weeds.
Beetles can overwinter as grubs ready to feed on roots once spring temperatures arrive. While they do not vector diseases, the damage they cause can leave plants more susceptible to infection. Grubs can also attract soil-dwelling rodents. If you have a mole problem, there is a good chance that grubs are part of what is attracting them!
