Root knot nematodes, cyst nematodes, dagger nematodes, lesion nematodes, ring nematodes and other types of Plant Parasitic Nematodes are tiny, almost microscopic creatures that infest plant roots and cause a wide range of symptoms including stunting, witling, yellowing, reduction of flowering, fruit set, and fruit development, die-back and sometimes even plant death. They have a widespread distribution and will feed on over 2,000 species of plants, including all major field crops, vegetable crops, turf, ornamentals, and legumes. Control can be difficult to achieve once Plant Parasitic Nematodes are established in the soil and may require soil solarization to do so. You can also work to reduce water stress on plants to help prevent Plant Parasitic Nematodes from taking up residence in your soil.
