Moles

There are many species of moles worldwide, and at least 7 are present in the United States. Moles are sometimes considered beneficial to gardeners and farmers because they eat insects and grubs. However, they are a nuisance when they demolish lawns and turf grasses in homes and golf courses through their tunneling. They also destroy gardens by separating plant roots from the soil. Moles have an insatiable appetite and they eat between 70 - 100% of their body weight daily.

There are several methods of mole control. There are physical methods such as exclusion with metal frames and baskets. Another method is the control of the food source that the moles voraciously go after. You can utilize Beneficial Nematodes which target grubs and worms, and without an abundant food supply moles will move onto other areas with prey for them to feed on. You could also try biological controls such as grubGONE! that uses the naturally occurring soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. galleriae or Milky Spore that uses the naturally occurring bacterium, Paenibacillus popilliae.
