Bred by Cornell University, this variety of cantaloupe is well loved for its beguiling aroma and delectable flesh. These melons are ribbed and round to oval in shape. Each delightfully creamy- textured fruit weighs in around 4-5 pounds and has bright orange, sugary-sweet and juicy flesh. The Delicious 51 is a heavy yielder with excellent disease resistance and will hold well for market or storage. Harvest at slip for maximum flavor. Well adapted for northern growing. Certified organic and biodynamic.
Soil Temp. for Germination: 40-75°F
Days to Maturity: 82
Sowing Indoors: Start seeds 3 weeks before your last frost date. Use a heat mat to achieve optimum soil temperature. Make sure to transplant in the garden bed before the taproot emerges out of the bottom of the plant.
Sowing Outdoors: Not recommended, but can be direct sown as long as soil temperature is above 70°F. Space plants 3-4 feet apart in rows.
Growing Tips: We have found that planting in raised beds and using mulches will help ripen even the largest melon a full 2 weeks early. Consistent moisture levels are necessary to avoid rotting. Soil should be barely moist to the touch.
