This French heirloom melon has been a favorite of gardeners there for over 150 years. This melon has an appearance that some consider beautiful and others find strange; it is flattened and ribbed, with a grey-green rind that is covered with numerous bumps and warts in shades of white. "Fond Blanc" means "white bottom" in French. The rind of the Prescott Fond Blanc will turn to a straw-like yellow color when mature. The real treat of this melon comes when it is cut; the lovely salmon-orange flesh is dense and sweet and has an enchanting floral melon fragrance. This plant handles heat and drought well and can produce some of its best flavor under these circumstances. The vines will continuously produce 4-9 lb. sized fruit through the season, usually about 4 per hill. Pick when the rind turns yellow or pick and let the melon sit indoors for about a week; as it continues to ripen it will fill your space with its delightful bouquet.

- Melon seeds don't like cold soil. Wait until the soil is warm to plant the seeds.
- Melons don't like to have their roots disturbed. When thinning out seedlings in hills, cut the stems of those you want to remove rather than pulling them out.
