Finally, a truly different fly repellent that has no oils, PBOs, Pyrethrin or Permethrin! This spray is powerful enough to repel biting, blood sucking insects but gentle enough to use on animals with sensitive skin. With regular use, you will even see improvement in Sweet Itch (hypersensitivity reaction to midge bites) problems with horses.
How does it work? With a little science: Insects zero in on their victims using a complex system of chemical cues. Unfortunately for horses, they emit all the favorite insect cues; so they are a prized target. Fatty acids play a part in drawing insects in, as some are attractants. Others, however, are repellents. Ecovet takes advantage of this fatty acid angle with a proprietary blend of naturally occurring fatty acids that disrupt and confuse the signals that insects are drawn to. Without clear directions, insects will fly off to a less complicated target.
The fatty acids in Ecovet are carried in a silicone oil during application. One applied, the oil will evaporate in about 20-30 minutes, leaving just the fatty acids behind. The fatty acids in Ecovet will then evaporate at a certain body temperature point, causing a "zone of repellency" around the animal. This repellent vapor barrier generally goes to work immediately, but may take up to 24 hours to reach its full potential. It will then retain its efficacy for days.
