Scentry Lures - Squash Vine Borer

Melittia cucurbitae

Lures to be used with Scentry Traps to monitor and trap adult male squash vine borers.

Traps are sold separately for use monitoring pest populations.

Pheromone lures mimic bug hormones or scents that are normally given off by insects to attract the opposite sex of their species for mating. When used with traps they lure the insects into the trap, preventing them from mating and capturing them on the sticky substance found inside the trap. This helps to break the reproductive cycle of the pest and it allows you to monitor the size of the population to help determine whether to intervene or not.

This lure should be used with Scentry Large Plastic Delta Trap or Scentry Wing Trap.

Use gloves or tweezers to remove lure from packaging and place on trap adhesive once traps are placed. Dispose of gloves after use.

Each lure remains effective for 4-6 weeks in normal conditions.

Squash Vine Borer Scentry Lures

As Phermone traps go this worked great. Captured a lot of males, so I hope to see a reduction each year I use this. This is not a pesticide so it works over time. ( I did this to the cucumber beetle using the cucumber beetle phermone and they are now few.) I also use Bacillus thiringus. on the stem base as added protection. (Watch where you put it as it affects all caterpillars) The triangular housing could be larger and more water proof. The sticky part was fine and kept working/ trapping but the housing kept loosing its shape. so give it a little cover. (Gonna try using a bird feeder cover and the Yellow bucket trap to see how well that works) Good luck all.

Caught Many bugs

I like the biological control concept. My squash are always decimated by squash borers. I am hoping this trap helps. I put it out later than I normally would. So far no obvious evidence of squash larvae or flying insects on plants. Traps have trapped various small flying bugs.
