- Place soil or compost in the sifter.
- Shake sifter over a container or wheelbarrow.
- After giving it a few good shakes, I like to take my hand trowel and run it over the remain soil and debris in the sifter. This loosens the additional compost or soil that is attached to the debris. Then I give it another few good shakes.
- You can repeat steps 2 and 3 a few times.
- Run the hand trowel under the sifter, releasing any of the soil/ compost that is clinging to the sieves.
- Shovel your soil or compost into the area you wish to use it. I use a rake if I am filling areas on my lawn or my in the ground garden to spread the sifted materials around. A hand rake is great to use when I am placing the sifted compost or soil in a smaller area such as a garden table
