Description

Ships via Overnight methods on Tuesdays Only. Minimum 7-day processing prior to shipment. See Shipping Info for details or call us at 1-800-827-2847. For Delivery Only. Not available in store.

Amblyseius andersoni is a predatory mite native to North America. They feed on and control all stages of phytophagous mites with all mobile life stages of A. andersoni acting as predators. A. andersoni are an excellent choice for pre-emergent control of pest infestations because of their varied diet and ability to survive cooler temperatures.

Target Prey: Broad Mites, Cyclamen Mites, Spider Mites (incl. Two-Spotted), Russet Mites

Key Features:

  • Sachet releases provide up to 6 weeks of control.
  • Lower active temperatures allow for earlier release.
  • Compatible with Phytoseiulus persimilis and Stethorus punctillum.
  • They will also feed on thrips*, pollen and honeydew.

Optimal Conditions: 68-100°F with higher relative humidity as temperatures rise. They are active down to 42°F, but A. andersoni will enter diapause at cooler temperatures or in <10-hour light periods.

Release Rates: Some crops, including tomatoes & other highly resinous crops, require higher release rates.

  • Mini-Sachets/Sachets on Sticks: Place one sachet or stick per propagation tray or plant. Repeat releases every 4 weeks through the growing season.
  • Sachet Strips: Place strips within crop canopy along rows to reduce labor costs. Six strips per case.
  • Loose Media Bags/Bottles: Release at a rate of 1 mite predator per square foot. Repeat releases periodically throughout the growing season.

This Product Controls These Pests or Diseases: Broad Mite (Polyphagotarsonemus latus), Cyclamen Mite (Phytonemus pallidus), Carmine Mite, Two-spotted Spider Mite (Tetranychus urticae), Red Spider Mite (Tetranychus cinnabarinus), Tomato Russet Mite (Aculops lysopersici), and Rust Mite (Eriophyidae).

* A. andersoni should not be used to control a thrips infestation. Use A. andersoni with A. cucumeris or Minute Pirate Bugs if thrips numbers are high.

Instructions

A. andersoni are effective predators of broad mites, cyclamen mites, two-spotted spider mites and russet mites; however, they work best when introduced while pest numbers are low. Use the release information below to determine the best method for release. If you are a first time user of mite predators, please call us at 1-800-827-2847 and we can walk through release instructions with you.

Release Instructions By Product Type:

  • Sachets on Sticks: Place sticks in the growing medium at time of planting and upon transplanting into pots. Repeat ever 4 weeks. Once plants mature, use mini-sachets.
  • Mini-Sachets: Open the shipping box of the sachets in the crop. Separate sachets by tearing along perforations. Hang every 2 meters inside plant canopy where possible. Do not hang where sachets will be directly exposed to intense sunlight or near heating pipes.
  • Sachet Strips: Place within plant canopy along crop rows. Crop and floor must be dry during application. Strips can be attached to the irrigation boom. Do not separate sachets or hang on heating pipes.
  • 5 Liter Bag: Release during propagation. Apply evenly throughout the crop and try to apply to foliage, not to media. Avoid applying directly to flowers if application are made during flowering stages.

Environment: Suitable for outdoor and greenhouse growing environments.

Storage: Keep the product at around 50-59° F until ready to release, but do not refrigerate. Place out of direct sunlight. Use within 18 hours of receipt.

  • Amblyseius andersoni hatch at temperatures between 68° and 77°F. In cooler temperatures they will enter diapause to survive.
  • Working temperature range: 42-100°F
  • Relative Humidity: Higher humidity needed for environments with higher temperatures.

Viability Note: If you plan to check for viability, please do so upon receipt and prior to releasing the beneficial insects. Many predators and parasites are small and can be difficult to spot once released. If you believe there are issues with viability, please contact us at 1-800-827-2847 or customercare@arbico.com.

What's In The Package:

  • 1 Liter Bottles (SKU 1101327) are packed with adult mite predators mixed with vermiculite.
  • 5 Liter Bags (SKU 1101321) are packed with adult A. andersoni mixed with vermiculite ready to feed on active mite populations.
  • Mini-Sachets (SKU 1101323, 1101350, 1101355), Sachets (SKU 1101325) and Sachet Strips (SKU 1101322) are packed with a mixture of immature and adult A. andersoni. This ensures ongoing release from sachets for 4-6 weeks after placement. Sachets are water-resistant and contain approximately 125 predatory mites each. Sachet Strips are packed with a ratio of 1 full sachet: 6 empty sachets to minimize mite predator losses between plants.

The colonies within sachets continue to breed in their sachets once placed into crops. They allow for controlled release, continued predator emergence, can be used indoors/outdoors, and with overhead irrigation.

Technical

Warning & Toxicities: Do not use adjacent to heating pipes.

Non-Mite Food Sources: Yes

Life Cycle: Adult females lay from 30-35 eggs in a lifetime, arranging eggs on leaf hairs. Laid eggs are usually found near leaf veins. Eggs hatch in approximately 2-3 days and molt twice before reaching adulthood. The maturation process from hatched larvae to adulthood lasts roughly 10 days, but varies based on food sources and environmental conditions. Adults live for about three weeks. If conditions warrant it, A. andersoni adults will enter diapause in order to survive colder conditions or overwinter for the following spring.

1 acre greenhouse mite control
Sep 2, 2020  |  By John Keil
I run a 1 acre greenhouse. We are typically right around 85 degrees and 50 percent humidity. These guys along with a few other predatory mites released every 2 weeks to a month keep any spider mites from showing up. Spider mites have been a constant issue for us trying to spray, once we switched to beneficial we haven't sprayed for spider mites once this year!

Excellent Bugs!
Aug 2, 2020  |  By Jesse Galvin
Have bought these lil guys on multiple occasions and never been disappointed! Cured russet mites in mine and friends' gardens. Tested their power by bringing mite infected plants into my grow room (I realize this was slightly reckless, but I was that confident) and was pleasenly rewarded with a healthy rebound every time. Also used in conjunction with an aggressive spider mite predator to knock back severe infestation with webbing on plants given to me for free (because everyone I spoke with said it was too far gone and had to be killed). Highly recommended, thank you Arbico!

no directions for the andersoni sachets do i need to tear open or just hang them?? i did both... assassin bugs did great seen many hatch VERY cool! Phytoseiulus persimilis-- did not seem to be alive i can they get too hot in delivery? opened them and seen many dead only 1 living(that i seen moving) i understand they are small but the orange color makes them quite visible i even grabbed a 100x scope to find many just dead around the top of the container ps;they didnt look dry or shriveled like they had been dead for long but flipped over not moving still quite clear and fat
Owner Response: Hi Mike, Thank you for the feedback. The instructions for releasing the sachets can be found on our website. We generally do not send them accompanying the package to save a little bit of paper. Also, if there are any viability issues with live product, please contact us immediately. We guarantee live delivery, so we will reship them if necessary. Glad to hear the assassin bugs are doing well also.
