Green Lacewing Eggs on Hanging Cards allow for easy and even release of lacewing eggs throughout the growing area. Ideal for use in orchards, indoor growing, greenhouses and row cropping. Introduce green lacewing at the first sign of pest infestation for best results. Please call us at 1-800-827-2847 to set up a recurring shipment program.

Green Lacewing Preferred Food: aphids, mealybugs, spider mites, leafhopper nymphs, moth eggs, scale, thrips, and whiteflies.

Optimal Temperatures: 67-90°F, RH >30%

Life Cycle & Behavior: Lacewing eggs hatch within 3-10 days of receipt depending on temperature and humidity in the release area. Once hatched, lacewing larvae feed for 2-3 weeks on a variety of soft-bodied insects. Larvae are recognizable by their prominent mandibles (mouthparts), alligator-like appearance and pale coloration with dark markings. The larvae molt as they grow and mature through 3 instar stages. Pupation occurs in silken cocoons on the undersides of leaves or under loose bark. Green lacewing will overwinter in the pupal stage in cooler climates. Adults emerge from the cocoons with large veined ("lacy") wings ready to mate and lay more eggs. Adult green lacewings feed on pollen, nectar and honeydew while aiding in pollination. The complete life cycle lasts roughly 30 days.

Release Rates: For best results, release Green Lacewing early in the season when pest numbers are low. Make a minimum of three releases.

  • In gardens and greenhouses, release eggs at approximately 1,000 eggs per 2,000 sq. ft.
  • For farms release 5,000 to 50,000 per acre depending upon infestation.

PLEASE NOTE: Ants and aphids have a symbiotic relationship. This is due to the fact that ants value the secretions of the aphids (honeydew) as a food source. The ants aggressively protect the aphids from other insect threats and the aphids produce the honeydew they crave. For this reason, before you begin any treatment to control aphids with predatory insects you will need to eradicate the ants in the area to be treated. Otherwise, they will wipe out any beneficials you introduce.

Release Instructions:

Hang Green Lacewing Cards within the canopy of individual plants where possible. If it is not possible, find shaded or protected areas and hang cards from suitable branches. Green lacewing larvae will hatch out from the eggs on the cards and move onto plant foliage in search of pest insects (food). Once hatched, green lacewing are tolerant of high temperatures and remain effective in high and low humidities. For these reasons, they are an excellent general predator in virtually any growing environment.

What Should I Expect After Release?

Green lacewing eggs will hatch within 3-10 days of receipt. Lacewing larvae are difficult to spot once hatched out and camouflage well with their surroundings. You can inspect eggs for hatching by looking for color changes. If eggs are still green, lacewing larvae are still developing. If eggs are gray, the larvae have hatched out.

Keep in mind that beneficial insects work at a slower pace than chemical controls. If immediate knockdown or control of an insect population is necessary, consider spraying a fast-acting insecticide or select a more targeted predator/parasite.

Adults lay eggs near larval food sources, so adult activity will be higher in those areas. They will appear around one month after release of the eggs and tend to disperse if food sources are limited. Providing plants that bloom and pollinate at different times of the year helps cultivate a habitat suitable and attractive to the adult green lacewings.

Best choice ever
May 1, 2022  |  By Danielle Holder
I can finally enjoy my roses without having to go on murder sprees every other day. I had a really bad infection and now I can't find a single aphid/thrip in sight!! Ordering some for a friend now. No more weekly chemical spraying!!!

Don't think any hatched
Mar 29, 2022  |  By Deanne
I never saw any larvae. I'm using these on indoor plants so it isn't that they crawled off. I ordered larvae later and they seemed better. Maybe it's my environment?
Owner Response: Hi there, Newly hatched Green lacewing larvae are VERY tiny and also very good at exploring and hiding in nooks and crannies of the leaves as they search for food. Some customers prefer to put the cards in a jar until they begin hatching (to confirm viability) and then move the cards to the plants.

Green lacewing eggs

Good company. Very dependable The lacewings hatched and did their job.
Owner Response: Glad to hear it Lee! Consider adding more to your army if you expect more pest pressure.

Best choice for aphids

I released 5,000 egg to one acres of CBD hemp. The aphids disappeared! Hands down the best company for living predators!

White fly control on grapes
Aug 8, 2020  |  By Ted Kisha
White flies were terrible on my grapes for years. Started hanging tabs with lacewing eggs in the spring and haven't seen a white fly since. One suggestion ...., separate the tags before shipping. They hatched before I got them in the mail and I squished a lot while separating the tags.

Mealy/spider mites
Jul 4, 2020  |  By Emily
While the lacewings worked great on the aphids, they left the mealy bugs and spidermites completely untouched. Don't think I'll use them again.

Green Lacewing Eggs - Hanging Cards
Jul 1, 2020  |  By Cobey Williamson
Thinking about using green lacewings as part of your aphid control program? Protect your trees from ants first. All of our lacewing eggs were eaten before a single one hatched. Avoid this $50+ lesson. Ensure honeydew feasting ants are controlled before applying lacewing eggs to your flora.

Love them
Jun 9, 2020  |  By Alejandra Blanco
When I got the delivery some eggs had already hatched, in the next week some more did. Now I see the little ones eating the spider mites. There aren't many of them (lacewings) yet, but I am still waiting for more to hatch and control the spider mites.

Miraculous!

These guys are getting the job done with our massive aphid population (we have lots of roses). Thanks!!

Great!
Jun 2, 2020  |  By Jhana Chinamasta
I am so happy with the great job these tiny little "alligators" do on aphids! Second year I have used: nearly zero aphids both years after battling them for way too long..... Thank you!! You may not see them (they are small and secretive) but they are obviously very, very busy! Thank You!

Convenient and easy
Jun 1, 2020  |  By Chad
Really convenient little hang tags. They worked well, my only "issue" is that the hang tags do make great feeding grounds for ant's, so if you trying to deal with aphids that are being farmed by ants it may be best to avoid the affected branches to avoid the ants eating all of the eggs before they hatch.

Good solution using lacewings
May 26, 2020  |  By Robin
Cards were easy to hang from troubled birch tree. You will need string. Able to arrange them to worst areas infested with unknown pest. I know they hatched since I have found lacewings in other areas of the yard. I will buy these again since it rained unexpectedly a few days after hanging them.

Surprising product, great service.
Jan 7, 2020  |  By Jacob Johnston
I've been in contact with customer support several times but not for issues with the products, just my own confusion. They were so extremely helpful each time. I do suggest just calling if it's more than the most simple thing. The products themselves were live Green Lacewing Eggs. I also ordered live larvae from them. Believe it or not I let these bugs loose in my small apartment! It is crammed with plants and treating pests the old fashion ways was getting to be too much work, and too much chemical in my space. I was hesitant to release live bugs to counteract the bad bugs but I rarely saw them at all, and when I did I was so happy to see these cute little monsters instead of the icky aphids and mealybugs that had plagued me before. They really did a heck of a job eating my pests!!!

Attack!!!
Sep 10, 2019  |  By Corey Duckett
I was being invaded! Terribly and so I ordered some lacewing eggs to help combat the enemy and boy are they attacking fierce.... I couldn't be happier

Shipping is a problem
Jul 6, 2019  |  By margaret byrd
In summer it gets very hot here. When something arrives in the mail box with a cool pack and reflective bag you assume it was supposed to stay cool. It was hot when it arrived which was a disappointment. I can't afford to spend and not receive in good condition
Owner Response: Hello Margaret, The lacewing eggs often do well even in warm to hot conditions. If you ever have viability concerns, you may always contact us at 1-800-827-2847. We guarantee live delivery, so we will reship them if needed.

Predators you want!

We hung these in our apple trees, and they hatched to hunt harmful insects.

Houseplants are now free of mealybugs and spider mites!
Jan 16, 2019  |  By Anna Burbank
I released these in my house to combat a mealybug and spider mite infestation. With 100 plants, spraying is not an option. They completely wiped out all of the bad bugs and I never saw a single lacewing.
