AQUABAC fg is a formulated and labeled microbial insecticide powered by Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti) for control of fungus gnats in greenhouse and nursery environments. Bti is a naturally occuring soil bacteria that acts as a biological larvicide (biolarvicide) against fungus gnats, mosquitos and midges.
AQUABAC fg can be applied to ornamentals, vegetables, herbs and flowers in greenhouses and nurseries when fungus gnats are present in the soil or medium. It can be applied through chemigation, sprinkler chemigation, drench irrigation, flood and furrow systems.
The Bti in AQUABAC fg works as an insecticide by producing a protein (insecticidal crystal protein – ICP) that is lethal to the pest larvae once it is ingested. This deadly process occurs rapidly after application; some will die within hours with complete larval mortality within 24 hours. Since AQUABAC fg must be ingested by the larvae to perform as an insecticide, this product will not be effective against insect pupae and adults. Insects in the late larval stages that are no longer actively feeding are also not affected.
Bti does not persist in water or soil. Its active ingredient of Bti is already found in the soil and the protein crystals it produces will separate naturally from the water and settle on the bottom. Once they settle, these crystals become food for other organisms or break down organically.
AQUABAC is also available in a granular formulation.
This Product Controls These Pests or Diseases: Fungus Gnats
AQUABAC fg should only be applied via chemigation such as sprinkler (including center pivot, lateral move, end tow, side (wheel) roll, traveler, big gun, solid set or hand move) flood (basin), furrow, border or drip (trickle) irrigation systems. Crop injury or lack of effectiveness can result from non-uniform distribution of treated water.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
- Remove residues from scale or pesticides from the tank and entire injector system before applying.
- Flush with clean water.
- Failure to provide a clean tank can reduce efficacy of product.
- Prepare a solution in the chemical tank by filling the tank with the required water and then adding product as required. AQUBAC fg readily suspends in water without mixing.
- AQUABAC fg should be used to treat additional areas under benches, tables or floors where fungus gnats are likely breed.
- Where heavy infestations (adults, eggs, pupae and larvae) are present, reapply weekly.
- Routine use of lower rates will keep populations to a minimum.
LIGHT INFESTATIONS
- Apply at a rate of 8-16 fl. oz. of Aquabac fg/100 gal. of water (0.5-1.0 tsp. of Aquabac fg/gal. of water)
HEAVY INFESTATIONS
- Use 32-64 fl. oz. of Aquabac fg/100 gal. of water (2-4 tsp. of Aquabac fg/gal. of water)
DRENCH
- Apply to soil or growing medium to sufficiently wet the surface where larvae are present.
Even though Aquabac fg is not known to be phytotoxic to plants, it has not been tested against all plant species. Check on several plants before wide-scale usage.
