Trichogramma brassicae is especially useful for controlling moth (Lepidoptera) populations on cole crops. Use T. brassicae in cooler climates with low-lying plants affected by caterpillar and/or borer damage.

Timing the release is important – if you release too early there aren't enough pest eggs for the wasps to parasitize - too late means that the pest eggs have hatched and you have a new problem - caterpillar pests.

Biology & Life Cycle: Trichogramma wasps lay their eggs inside the pest eggs, stopping development. The larvae feed on the egg and then emerge as adults. The larvae take 10 days to develop within the pest moth egg, which turns brown or black as the larvae pupate. The adult wasps live anywhere from 7 to 14 days, depending on temperature and moisture and the female Trichogramma will parasitize up to 300 pest moth eggs. Eggs on cards usually hatch within 2-5 days.

This Product Controls These Pests or Diseases: Trichogramma parasitize the eggs of more than 200 pests including Borers, Webworms, loopers, leafworms, fruitworms, cutworms, bollworms, and armyworms (except beet armyworms).

Release Rate:
Tabs/Cards

  • 1 tab for 3000 sq. ft. or 1 tab per tree in an orchard.
  • ½ to 2 cards weekly per acre for 2 – 6 weeks.

Bulk Eggs
  • Bulk eggs are shipped without a medium.
  • 1-2 per sq. ft.
  • 50,000 - 100,000 per acre.
  • Use Hanging Release boxes to distribute.

Release immediately upon receipt. Release Trichogramma at first flight of moths and every 7-10 days thereafter until infestation subsides. It is best to release in the early morning or evening by hanging the cards out of direct sunlight, below plant tops or in trees where moths have been seen. Cards or tabs can be put on stakes or hung from the edge of a pot. Do not touch the eggs.

Using traps to monitor for adults and visual inspection of foliage to monitor for moth eggs will help determine the best time to release Trichogramma.


Storage: Release adult wasps immediately after emergence.

Conditions: Place in a warm location (80-90°F), out of direct sunlight. Hang individual cards where moths are seen.

These are the best bugs I have ever purchased. Work as advertised. Have used going on 3 springs.

Can be used for indoor clothes moths as well

I used a series of these to suppress an indoor clothes moth infestation. There's prior research that these do seek and destroy clothes moth eggs, though the kill rate is probably not over 90%. T. Minutum seem to be a better fit for target egg size of a clothes moth (very small), so I alternated some with that, but there's prior journal writeup around T. Brassicae destroying clothes moth eggs. The approach I took was to order these every 3 weeks, then place every 5 or so days on top of places with a lot of wool. They like to walk more than fly. I was keeping unused tabs in a 45F fridge in the meanwhile to slow hatching. Worked fine. Won't be enough to destroy an infestation on their own, but my experience is they greatly hurt the population, and when combined with other approaches, I was able to achieve eradication.

Working even though set out late

I love the concept of biological control. I put these out late, after I noticed considerable damage to kale, cabbage, and broccoli. I had used DE (diatomaceous earth) early in the season. I noticed an obvious decline in the damage to new growth after using these egg cases. They are very easy to use, and effective.

We always had a terrible moth problem,. the first year we use these it was night and day difference, and this year has been even better. Obviously nothing's foolproof but the six tabs around the perimeter of my 1/3 acre have helped dramatically.

Using these for Indian Meal Moth control. They are working well so far. The number of moths have decreased considerably but still have a few each day. Will keep using them until they are eliminated. Great customer service!!

Kills clothes moths

After doing some research on a Trichogramma species to control a clothes moth infestation that was inside our walls, we turned to this product/species. We have placed half a card in 12 locations in our home where we thought were near the moths or where we didn't want any moths (like closets) for 5 consecutive weeks. The visible adult population has largely disappeared over this time. Prior to deploying these wasps, we would see and kill at least a dozen moths every day. I highly recommend this approach to tackling a difficult problem.
