  • Surround® WP - 25 lb bag
    SKU: 1440065
  • $56.25

Description

If you've ever wanted to camouflage your fruits and vegetables from destructive pests, then you need Surround WP. This OMRI listed and WSDA approved crop protectant is a specially formulated Kaolin clay mixture that protects plants in three ways:

  • Sun Protection - The Kaolin clay covers the crop to shield it from the sun, reducing sunburn by 50%
  • Cooler Canopy - Spraying Surround throughout the canopy can cool plants by 10-15°F which helps reduce heat stress during high temperatures. This cooling effect can also be applied when there is a need to extend cool weather for better orchard crops the following year.
  • Insect Protection - This special formulation can suppress insect damage by coating the crop and making it unrecognizable or uncomfortable to land/feed on. This can reduce the amount of damage done, stop early infestations from growing, and eliminate vector-borne diseases.

Kaolin clay is highly recommended for use on apple, citrus, and pear trees, wine grapes, nut trees, cucumber and tomato plants, melons, onions, and strawberries.

Apply Surround WP with commercial sprayers or even hand-held sprayers. You can even mix it with other products without interfering with their effects.

Surround WP helps plants regulate water loss and increases photosynthesis, resulting in better yields and healthier plants.

Please note that growth enhancers are not registered in the state of California.

See DOCS tab for many usage and crop specific information.

This Product Controls These Pests or Diseases: Apple Maggot (Rhagoletis pomonella), Codling Moth (Cydia pomonella), Colorado Potato Beetle, Cucumber Beetle, Fig Beetle (May/June Beetle) Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica Newman), Grasshoppers, Leafhopper (Circulifer tenellus), Lesser Apple Worm, Olive Fruit Fly (Bactrocera oleae), Oriental Fruit Moth (Grapholitha molesta), Powdery Mildew, Pear Psyllid, Plum Curculio, Rose Chafer (Macrodactylus subspinosus), Stink bugs, Thrips (Franklinothrips sp)

Surround WP is used as a suppressant for some of the pests listed above. It should not be relied upon for complete control of some pests.

Instructions

Commercial Applications

  • Standard Rate: 25-50 lbs mixed into 100 gallons of water per acre.
  • Heavy Rate:For severe conditions or crop-specific needs, mix up to 100 lbs into 100 gallons of water per acre.
Important: Continual agitation is required during application to prevent the settling of the clay. Refer to the product label for detailed crop-specific instructions.

Home & Garden Applications (Backpack or hand sprayer)

  • Mixing Rate: Use ¼ to ½ lb (approximately 3 cups) of Surround WP per gallon of water.
  • Begin with ¼ to ½ of the total water volume in the sprayer tank.
  • Slowly add Surround WP to the water. Allow the powder to sink without floating or filling the tank with a hose, then shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
  • Add the remaining water and shake again for 30 seconds.
  • Shake the sprayer occasionally during application to maintain suspension.

Post-Application Care:

  • Spray until the tank is empty.
  • Flush the system and nozzles with fresh water.
  • Store leftover mix at room temperature and use within 2-3 weeks to avoid spoilage.
  • Rinse and air-dry the sprayer thoroughly before the next use

Effective Against Cucumber Beetles
Aug 16, 2024  |  By Bethany
I had a huge infestation of cucumber beetles. This didn't work 100%, but it helped A LOT. It went from finding multiple beetles on every cucumber and squash I picked to only seeing them occasionally. I also sprayed it on the leaves of my strawberry plants to protect them from the sun. I'm trying to baby them through the summer here in zone 10. I think it helped them a lot. They started producing strawberries again!

So far so good!
Aug 13, 2024  |  By Tre
Ordered this and it showed up within a few days. We've had terrible grasshoppers this year, and we get intense sun. I applied this broadly to our garden areas and it seemed to ease the grasshopper pressure, with the added benefit of perking up our cucurbits which I think were getting stressed from the sun. I've got enough to last at least a few seasons which is great!

BEST PRODUCT EVA!! :)
Aug 9, 2024  |  By Janet Young
OH my Gosh am I ever excited! I have been looking for a product for EVA yes for EVER. One to help with the extreme heat due to weather and one to help with the pests that want to continue to destroy my vegetable garden that I work so hard in for months. I have been a customer of Arbico for 2 seasons (not quite 2 full years) and I'm telling you, I am so blessed I found them while searching on the INTERNET. They have been by far the most educated, kindest, most knowledgeable, patient folks I've ever talked to about my garden. Just where had they been all my life.. I will tell you right off the bat before I go on..... I highly recommend this company and especially if you are a beginner.. They will teach you from step one.... So here in No. California we have had such a hot summer ..Starting in June, July & now August we have had temperature each day reaching 100 & more and very few days going beneath.. My crops have suffered .... Everything.. tomatoes, bell peppers burning.... trying to get the watering right and then getting split tomatoes, rot etc... it's so terribly frustrating..........pests, aphids, and who knows what else. I have ordered many organic products from Orbico and that has been a life saver ... haven't had one hornworn.. haha.. The only thing I am sorry about is, I am just learning about the Surround WP now in August... so late but better late than never. I am still going to apply. And for those of you home gardeners complaining that it's too big of a big..............be kind......share with your friends........I have a couple I met inside of ACE.... they are on their way over as I write this review....I am giving them a tub full... Share , Be kind. it's ok... WE have some great new friends now... My neighbors are going to try it.... and you never know... if 4 or 5 of us go through a bag of it.............we can split it and the shipping and it's all good.... Cheap! easy peasy.... Thank you Arbico.... YOU are the best ever!!!!!

It was Great. Thank You

Thank you.
Jul 13, 2024  |  By Mary Beth
First time with grasshoppers who eat it all. I did not want my young apple trees I started from seed to be eaten and destroyed. Fred Billings from Houston said get Surround from ARBICO! Better white trees and vegetables than being eaten by grasshoppers. I now have applied 2 allocations of the Surround WD and most happy with it. I continue to pick tomatoes and just clean them off. The new raspberry starts look great. Maybe no berries until next year. Thank you! It works great with the infestation of grasshoppers.

Citrus Sunscreen

It's early hot season, so I don't know how the summer will end, but the principle is proven.

Best protection for our apple trees
Aug 12, 2023  |  By Lee Walters
We are a residential grower of two apple trees. Codling moths and Apple Maggots are the biggest threats to our fruit. Surround WP in conjunction with a Spinosad product have proved to be the most effective treatments against those bugs. Our trees produce an impressive abundance of blemish-free fruit every year.

Saved us from a heavier than usual Japanese beetle infestation
Aug 8, 2023  |  By Joshua J. Brock
As a hop grower, we've been able to rely on beetle traps for the past few years. This season however, Japanese beetles could've cared less about the traps/lures and went right for our bines, starting at the top and they were determined to gorge themselves on our leaves until they reached the bottom. I reached out to a former colleague who is also an apple grower, and he highly recommended kaolin clay as one might expect. Maybe obvious to others who've used this before, but for newbies to it like me, it's a big bag...light...just physically large so be aware of that. I leave it in the box and scoop out of the bag as the powder will get everywhere otherwise. It's worked like a charm thus far...saved our hops crop this year! Thanks!!

Best year yet for sand plums
Jun 14, 2023  |  By James Gutierrez
I have enjoyed sand plums for the better part of my 60+ years but this year they are better. I am finally learning how to care for them to get a better crop as opposed to just being lucky in some years. Immediately after the blossom drop, I spray all the thickets with Surround WP. Surround WP comes in 25-lb bags and costs about $50/bag but unless you can find it at a local farm store - expect to pay shipping on the order of $30-$40. Still, I love my sand plums and this is worth it. The application listed is 1/2 pound per gallon of water but the easy measurement is to dump the entire content of the bag into three five-gallon buckets and you will get 2 and 1/2 buckets full - so two ten-pound amounts of Kaolin clay and one 5 Pound (the half bucket). I'm using a 25-gallon sprayer on the back of a small atv. (I liked this size of sprayer because it had a better/stronger pump) Add some water to the sprayer and dump one entire bucket of clay into the water and keep adding water until you have 20-25 gallons. You will have the right ratios with this system. Spray all of your plum thickets with this. When they have dried - they may look like you have "whitewashed" them. The spray is not poisonous, and you will get some on you and your vehicle. That's fine but try to use the wind to your advantage. This first spray will be ok through the first spring storm or two or three but plan to spray the plum thickets again a few weeks later. This second spray seems to stick a bit better. Bugs and other critters do not like this clay dust on the plants and leave you with almost completely pest-free evenly ripening plums.

Surround WP great for sun protection
Aug 31, 2021  |  By Liriodendron
We've had temperatures up to 123F in the.yard this year, and we are just starting fruit trees and a vegetable garden at our new home. The poor plants were struggling, and I learned about Surround WP late in the year. However, I got it on the plants in late August and they immediately looked less stressed. I"m looking forward to getting it on them in late May next year and saving the stress of June-July-August. We had hail and rain the last couple of days and a surprising amount of whitewash stayed on the plants!

Good Deal for the quantity
Aug 28, 2021  |  By Don Cressin
I had been looking to purchase this locally and could not find it even at our local farm supply place in any quantity more than 1lb. I found it here, enough to last me several seasons for my large garden as I had run out. The price difference between buying the equivalent in 1lb packages to meet this quantity were large. This is way more economical!

Satisfied, mostly

I love this product. It is very effective with warding off bugs from my squash, cucumber, tomato and many more plants. I have one complaint - it only comes in such a large amount. I have a home garden and will never use all of this powder. I am trying to give it away, but it is kind of expensive, so some small portion bags would be helpful.

very professional and personable company

My first time with this company. I am always a bit suspicious with internet companies as to their commitment to their customers and their desire to make money no matter what. The individual I talked to when ordering was very pleasant and professional and my order came in a timely manner and very well packaged. I will be placing orders with this company again.
