FREE GROUND SHIPPING! See Shipping Info for more detail.

Solar Fly Traps are used by horse owners, breeding and training facilities, dairies, poultry and swine facilities, feedlots, gardeners, pet owners, kennels, and other places where flies are a nuisance. Simply add mixed bait to the trap and clean out once full of flies!

The Solar Fly Trap is designed to go anywhere. It is made-to-last out of rust-free, heavy duty aluminum. Use the Solar Fly Trap to reduce existing fly populations, fly blooms and migrant flies while your Fly Eliminators control the developing flies.

The yeast-based bait is mixed with water and poured into the container at the bottom of the trap. Flies are lured into the trap within seconds. They enter into the confinement chamber and dehydrate from exposure to the sun. When the Solar Fly Trap begins to fill up with flies, just empty, hose out and reset with new bait. SKU #1256001 comes with one packet of bait, which is enough for approximately 5 weeks.

Trap Placement: Place the Solar Fly Trap in a location that gets morning sun and afternoon shade, if possible. Having the trap heat up during the day is necessary for the flies to die. Solar Fly Traps can be moved around as fly breeding sites move around through the fly season.

It is important to remember that trapping adult flies is only one step in a successful fly control program. Manure management and maggot control are just as important in maintaining low fly populations. Use beneficial nematodes to kill active maggots in and around manure piles, organic detritus and other food sources. ScentGuard/Barn Kleaner can be sprayed to break down organic compounds that produce odors attractive to flies.

Usage Rate: Each Solar Fly Trap will attract flies from roughly 2,500 square feet surrounding the trap. Various facilities and uses (dairy facilities, waste treatment facilities and poultry farms) may require more traps depending on the severity of the fly populations and proximity of fly breeding sites.

Crawfish trap?
Sep 15, 2024  |  By Austin Harper
Awesome! Great at catching flys! Now that I'm thinking about it maybe it would be a great crawfish trap as well with a few modifications! Lol

Genius fly trap
Jul 30, 2024  |  By Debra Vigna
The solar fly trap is a life-saver! With three dogs I'm diligent about keeping up with poop cleanup but still the flies are out of control when it gets hot. This trap works brilliantly and is 100% natural. I just place it over the freshest/most recent dog poop and clean up the rest and all the flies swarm to it and get trapped. The sun does the rest! I love that it doesn't involve anything toxic. Highly recommend!

Not worth the price.
Jul 17, 2024  |  By Andrea Pike
Technically it works, but it requires a lot of attention and is not worth the price.

Love these fly traps
Jul 11, 2024  |  By Judit
Huge difference with these fly traps around the barn. I have 6 near muck buckets, cross ties and even inside the barn aisle which I was happy to see how effective these trap are even inside the barn as well as outside in the sun. Definitely worth the price of smelling that bait.

The amazing self-emptying solar fly trap
Jun 27, 2024  |  By Bryan Lambert
The solar fly trap is a bit expensive, but it works really well Too well. I have had one for a few years. It fills quickly with flies...Something was knocking the trap over, dumping the bait, and clawing at the trap...causing some damage. This went on for several days...ALL of the dead flies were missing from each day before. I put the fly trap centered inside a medium size dog kennel to protect the fly trap from further damage. It still got knocked over. Was this the work of a skunk, a raccoon, an opossum, or perhaps something else? I decided to setup a baited medium live trap next to kennel to find out. The first night I setup a live trap I caught an opossum. Its short legs couldn't have reached the solar trap while centered in the kennel, but its tail probably could have. I let it loose. Hopefully it will move on to somewhere else or I now have an opossum feeder. It's a great fly trap, and scavengers love it!

Best trap ever
Jun 24, 2024  |  By Monika Streckel
This flytrap is amazing, outperforms any other. It is worth the investment. The bait is a must have also.

Does Work!
Jun 24, 2024  |  By Kim Isom
This trap works great! The video is accurate on how many flies it traps & how easy it is, however, the Solar Fly Bait does take 7 days to mix and let ferment before you can really start attracting the flies into the trap. That was my only disappointment as the video didn't mention the waiting period. BUT - after you get your bait made and pour it into the solar trap - it's crazy how many flies it contains. IT WORKS!! I bought 2 of these traps as well as the Equiderma Horse Spray - and I use that for immediate relief for some of my livestock.

Whaaat?!?
Jun 14, 2024  |  By Gracie g
Amazing results. So many flies caught-kinda creepy to know they are out there. Bowls don't often last more then 1 yr

Effective alternative to pesticide

The five I've purchased are very effective in reducing my fly problem.

This is the best fly bait! I use it in all my home made and reusable traps.

Fly Magnet!
Oct 27, 2023  |  By Nicole Arizona
I ordered one as a trial...2 days after setting it out...I ordered 2 more! The bait is irresistible to flies! Within an hour of putting the trap out, it had so many flies in it I couldn't believe it! It doesn't smell like some of the disposable ones, and it is easy to use. The ARBICO bait works way better than the temporary mixture provided in the directions. Flies be gone!!!! Horses are happy!!!!

Solar fly trap
Sep 9, 2023  |  By Kristie Hall
Easy to use. Doesn't blow around, which caused breakage of the plastic bag fly traps. Wont biodegrade like all the plastic ones. No stinky water mess to dispose of when trap is full. I live in Phoenix AZ area therefore must fill every other day. But so easy to fill, just pour through lid into bowl. It does stink so I put it down wind and far away from house - no problem.

Solar Fly TrAp
Sep 9, 2023  |  By Bill Morrison
I have 2 solar flytraps, this is a must have. Once you add the bait, traps fill with flies. Bait is stinky but works amazing! I will eventually add a few more. A must have product!

Works... But Stinks
Sep 1, 2023  |  By Howard G Grant
I have to say this thing works, but it does stink, which is the whole point... Right?

Works very well
Aug 19, 2023  |  By Pam
We have a very small farm next door to a stable of horses and goats. There are an unbelievable amount of flies that accumulate in our shed where we feed feral cats and in our chicken coop. I really like this fly trap - it catches an amazing amount of flies with very little effort on my part. I'm going to order a few more to set out in different areas of the property since I don't have to worry about any pesticides.

Flies Love It!
Aug 5, 2023  |  By Kary
As other reviews describe, the bait is stinky but not "dead animal" stinky, it's tolerable, especially at a bit of a distance. The flies *love* it, and my friend's chickens love the delicious treat of dehydrated flies. We have a small yard and three large dogs, and the solar fly trap has definitely made a big dent in the amount of flies we have during the hot dry months in inland San Diego.

Amazing!
Aug 3, 2023  |  By Stef
I was skeptical that this fly trap would work but HOLY COW! It is absolutely amazing and disgusting at the same time. I placed it near our house (but not too close) and filled it with the bait and immediately the fly's are going in the trap. When it filled up I gave the chickens the contents. I will definitely be buying several more to keep around our farm.

Flies in Arkansas are tough and abundant the Solar Fly Trap is fantastic
Jul 25, 2023  |  By Jamie Caporaso
The Flies in Arkansas are tough and abundant; the Solar Fly Trap is fantastic! My husband was very skeptical when I wanted to purchase. He just came in from sitting on our deck and said, "I can't believe how well that trap has done; there was not a fly outside!" We have also noticed no flies in our garage and around the property. There were some reviews that said it smells, but we really have noticed very little smell if any at all. I have sent the website to numerous people. I'd buy it again.

Surprisingly excellent
Jul 19, 2023  |  By Bridget
I saw on An American Homestead YouTube channel that the family was going to try this product but they didn't follow through with how it turned out. I'm happy to report this is by far the BEST fly trap ever! We have range steers smash in our septic leech lines and the population got out of control before they could be rounded up. It was seriously plague like! In 1 month the flies are down to a normal level. I had to empty it weekly as it was full! So so happy with this product. The cows, chickens, dogs, cats, and horses thank you!

Hoped it would be a good fly trap
Jul 10, 2023  |  By Lara
I bought this because it has such great reviews...it is extremely high maintenance! I am a very busy person and I think I could have caught more flies with a fly swatter in my spare time. Perhaps it is because we live in the desert, but it isn't working for us like the other reviews are saying. I also thought that since Arbico is located in the desert, not far away from us, that it would have been tested there, and worked well in the desert too. As soon as I open the bottle of bait to pour into the trap (every other day) a few flies appear, and they may get trapped, but that is about all. Later in the day, not many flies are around the trap, but they are flying around the area, not interested in the trap at all. Over the time we have had the trap (at least a month). I think there may be 50 dead flies in it, we live on a farm and there are plenty of flies around. I was really hoping for a more sustainable trap than the disposable traps from the local store. But those work so much better for us, and are not as high maintenance. And they are a lot less expensive.

Chipmunk
Jun 23, 2023  |  By Todd Sullivan
Was doing a great job until the chipmunks wanted a snack and destroyed the inner screen. They also ate the plastic bowl.

So far so good
May 31, 2023  |  By Juliann Horrell
We bought this fly trap for our lake house in upstate NY. The black flies are horrible during the summer and we are hoping the Solar Fly Trap will give us some relief. I set the trap up yesterday and within 5 minutes the flies were all over it! Looking forward to a fly free summer!

These work amazingly well
May 28, 2023  |  By Michael
I've had these for 5 years now and year after year going strong

Unfortunately, Meh
May 13, 2023  |  By Janet Baker
So far I'm not having as much luck with this industrial-sized fly trap as with the smaller and cheaper plastic versions to be found everywhere. The bait must be changed very often or it seems to lose its effect (I am thinking of replacing it with a small bit of fresh manure), and the older the mix, the less it works. Also the metal is rather flimsy for the price.

Wow!
Apr 18, 2023  |  By Abby Thompson
I can't believe how well this trap is working. We had so many flies on our lanai every day. Since we set up the trap, they are about 95% gone. We tried the solar traps from the hardware store - they smelled like a dead animal and only worked for a couple of days. This trap does not smell and it just continues to work day after day. Highly recommend!

Amazing
Sep 11, 2022  |  By Danelle
I literally spent the first two days taking photos and videos of this thing because I could not believe how well it worked! I have to empty it weekly because it gets filled with dead flies. Cleaning is easy and I'll probably be ordering more soon.

Sturdiest fly trap

I've tried other traps and they can't hold up to Colorado wind. This one does. Also, best attractant I've found.

Oddly disgusting and satisfying at the same time
Aug 16, 2022  |  By Raymond Handy
My wife and I decided to have one more adventure in life so we sold our home and moved to Spain, after a couple years in Barcelona we decided to buy a country house in rural Spain , we realized that we would have to come up with a plan to manage the fly population, we visited the property in August and it was to say the least annoying, standing in the driveway it seemed like there always 15 or 25 flies buzzing around our heads, but I came up with a plan to manage the population. In all my research the solar fly trap from ARBICO seemed like the best option, the problem for us was we lived in a foreign country and there didn't seem to be a way to get them shipped here. So we started managing the fly problem using disposable red top fly traps, we surrounded the perimeter of our living space on the farm with these traps and I must say for the most part they certainly helped maintain a livable environment, but the reality is they are not only expensive to replace they are downright disgusting to dispose of properly, so when we we returned to the United States this summer to celebrate our daughters wedding I ordered two solar fly traps and we returned to Spain with them and put them on the perimeter of our property where the fly population was particularly bad, I cannot stress enough how effective these traps have been in the areas that we have deployed them, it has been a particularly hot summer the fly population is quite extensive yet we feel very comfortable using our swimming pool and our patios without being attacked by the fly population, they just work, and if you have ever used those disposable fly traps I can't begin to describe how much easier it is to dispose of the dead flies using the solar fly trap. If I could find a way to have them shipped directly to Spain I would order more of them immediately, so for now I will wait to my annual trip back to United States and order them two at a time as they are quite large to fit in a suitcase, my advice; get them, they work!!

These things just work
Aug 14, 2022  |  By Greg stirewalt
I have two of these and I have to say they just work. The bait takes a life effort to make but the stinky stuff really attract the flys

Attracts flies but weather too cool to work
Jul 19, 2022  |  By Terra
This attracts flies great, but my weather just isn't hot or sun not strong enough to kill them. During the day it will be full of flies but they all crawl right back out.

Great product
Jun 23, 2022  |  By Steve Hunter
I live in the mountains where flies do not seem to be attracted to sugar baits that work well in the valley. The Fly Trap Attractant, works better than I could have hoped for. We are able to eat lunch out doors on the deck with out be bothered by flies for the first time. Thank you ARBICO

Awesome product!
Jun 21, 2022  |  By Chandra Lopez
This really sistracts the flies away from our outdoor living space! It is absolutely shocking how many flies are trapped within minutes. If I recorded it, you would totally be creeped out. I am so thankful there's that many less flies around our property to procreate! Awesome product. I'm ordering a second to keep near the chicken coop we are setting up!

Excellent way to trap house flies

Works like a charm

This is the second one of these fly traps in our horse barn, and it's working great. I've managed to place them where the smell is not overwhelming, which is a plus.

Best fly trap ever
May 14, 2022  |  By Beth Ledner
We've been using this fly trap for about 6 years. We had to replace the bowl once, but the rest is still going strong. Order new baits every year and catch thousands of flys every week. Best investment in bug control I've made. Highly recommend.

Best fly trap
Sep 29, 2021  |  By Eric
This is the best fly trap I have ever used, and the bait attracts a LOT more flies than other baits from brands like Victor. Note that the bait takes some time to "brew" but it is well worth the wait.

Solar fly trap
Aug 29, 2021  |  By Laura R White
This has worked really great to get rid of the flies. However the smell of the liquid that you put into the fly trap smells terrible. But if that's what the flies like we can put up with the smell.

Best fly attractant

solar fly trap bait
Aug 10, 2021  |  By paul halpin
Have been using your solar fly traps (3) for years now and was recently vey disapointed in the two fly bait bags I received . I mixed it u as usual in and orange juice bottle and after waiting 5 days as usual I had emptied the traps and on filling the cups noticed that there was no stinky odor to attact the fly's. even after waiting 3 days. nothing. I went to tractor supply and bought bait bags and threw out the arbico bags. Very disappointed.

Works great
Aug 10, 2021  |  By Melody Colbert
This trap will catch hundreds of flies within a couple of hours. I went from having hundreds of flies on the ceiling of my barn every evening to a handful immediately. The only thing you need to be careful of is the fact that horses and dogs like the stinky odor and will try to knock it over - so it should be placed out of reach of pets like dogs and horses!

Outstanding

Jul 7, 2021  |  By christina gomez
This fly trap is legit. I have two acres of open land and I went out one to day water my garden and was swarmed with flys I freaked out and googled large fly trap and this came up. I was skeptical but I was desperate and I'm so happy I bought this with out a second thought it was well worth it and i received it on time once the bait was ready and I placed it in the center of my yard all the flys went to it and I could finally enjoy my new property. 100 percent works definitely recommend 10/10

The BEST stable fly traps
Jun 27, 2021  |  By Carla
These are excellent traps for the biting stable flies. I currently own six and buy one or two each year to add to my fly arsenal. They are a bit pricey, but worth it. I set them up and within hours I have TONS of flies buzzing around in them. If I do not see flies in a trap, it is easy to move it to a more effective location. I have tried to use them with other bait - but the bait that they sell with them is truly the best. I even use this bait in my disposable hanging fly traps since it is so much more effective. Totally worth the money and so satisfying to see them all trapped in there! I just wish I could find a trap that was as effective for horse flies.

Does not work
Jun 16, 2021  |  By Jeffrey barnes
I bought this three weeks ago ,it does attract flies but it does not trap them in like it says. I see fly inside of it during the day but the next morning there gone..not sure what is wrong with it but flys get out some how

So many flies!
Jun 8, 2021  |  By Michael
We have a pretty bad fly problem outside. One of our friends had one of these and said it made a huge difference so we bought one. After only one week of use, there are hundreds and hundreds of flies in the trap. I'm amazed at how many flies it's caught in just a short amount of time. Since this is reusable, it's way better than the bags that you buy and hang up and throw away. Considering purchasing a second one!

Excellent investment
Jun 3, 2021  |  By Nichole Jolly
Seriously the best fly control I have ever used!!

Awesome!
May 27, 2021  |  By Jewel
This was full of flies within a couple hours! It had made a huge difference in our urban backyard where we keep chickens. While somewhat pungent, it smells MUCH better than the disposable traps that smell like death. I do wish this was designed so that the bait bowl could be slid out for cleaning and refilling. As it is, it's all attached, so in order to dump out the dead sundried flies in the trap, you end up having to dump the bait bowl out which is wet and smelly and full of rotten flies. I've taken to using a small hand trowel to scoop the dry dead flies out for my chickens. They love them! Other than that, which I do think could be addressed in a later design, this thing is awesome. I'm so glad we bought it and it will remain part of our fly solution for years to come.

Solar Fly Trap
May 25, 2021  |  By Mark Spurlock
The Arbico Solar Fly Trap has been very effective in controlling my Fly problem. I produce compost using 6 500 gallon composting bins with Horse manure and red wiggler composting worms. The fly trap is full of flies each day. Me and my Horses are both glad to get relief from this problem.

Solar fly trap
May 16, 2021  |  By Carol Walton
We have been using the solar fly trap for several years and it does a great job. We have it out by our horse corral. This is a great product and the company is wonderful to work with. The product arrives quickly and after the initial investment in the trap, we now just buy the bait each year.

2nd Go Around
Apr 6, 2021  |  By SARA COX
I have owned these traps for 8 years or so. The horses got into the feed room and crushed them (my fault) we know how great these are at trapping flies that I am breaking down to buy them again. They are wonderful and really do work!

Great Trap for Greenheads
Apr 1, 2021  |  By Margaret Barber
We live in Cape Cod and the greenhead horseflies come out every year in the summer. The bites are awful. We bought this fly trap last year and it's amazing how many greenheads it killed. We bought another trap so we can now have two in our back yard. We even took one with us to the beach last summer for a wedding so the wedding party would not get bitten. It works very well and I highly recommend this product.

Exceeded expectations
Aug 4, 2020  |  By Caroline E Morse-Aller
I am in love with this fly trap. I wanted something easy to operate, not ugly hanging around at eye level, not using crazy chemicals/poison, and still actually worked. This was it. It's so easy to use and I was stunned at the amount of flies in the trap and how few flies we had around in the coop and pen. I would definitely recommend this to literally everyone. Thanks Arbico!

Great fly catcher
Aug 4, 2020  |  By Monika C Streckel
I have 2 of the solar traps, had them for a few years. The great thing about them is that when they are emptied , no smell because the bait goes in a dish below the trap. I also believe the secret is the bait. And this bait is one of the best.

Amazing fly trap
Aug 3, 2020  |  By Amanda C
I love this fly trap! I put it next to my chicken coop where it catches a good portion of the flies from the coop. The trap dehydrates the flies which I then feed to my chickens - great protein for my girls!

The best-worst stuff out there!
Jul 30, 2020  |  By Dan Goodman
This stuff stinks worse than anything you will find at the "tractor store," which is why it is the best stuff. I've tried using the store brands in a pinch and it just doesn't stink enough to attract the bugs. I usually order a bunch and have a couple of gallons on standby.

expensive but works
Jul 20, 2020  |  By Kelly Quenneville
We have 2 of these traps and this is the 3rd summer with them. They work and work well. However with such a simple design we can't imagine why they are so costly. We'd purchase more if they weren't so expensive.

Best trap ever
Jun 11, 2020  |  By Sarah
This trap is amazing! The bait is absolutely revolting and you wouldn't want it too close to your house, but it really works. I have also been very pleasantly surprised that it attracts yellow jackets as well. Because the flies dehydrate, it is much easier, and far less disgusting, to clean out than the type of trap that leaves you with putrefied fly soup. It catches exponentially more flies than any other trap I have tried. I highly recommend it.

Great fly trap
May 27, 2020  |  By Marianne Hebner
This fly trap is great and it's even better that you can buy replacement parts. We had some grading done on our back barn road and somehow the top to the fly trap got lost. It's fantastic how well these fly traps work!

Best ever fly catcher

We've been utilizing this fly trap for several years. Pricey 1st year, but more than pays for itself through years of use over disposable, single use traps.

BYE BYE you pesky flies!!!
May 21, 2020  |  By Amy Novelli
The man who works on my horse trailer told me his wife uses part of his metal shop to fabricate the solar fly traps for ARBICO. I didnt think much of it and thought they were kind of pricey and didn't want to deal with the smell of the bait, but this year with 2 housemates living on my "Ranchito" with 3 horses, 3 dogs and sometimes chickens, the new house members were complaining a lot about the flies...we tried hauling the manure as far in the back as possible and twice a day but it kept getting worse, so i figured I would throw some money at the problem. I got one solar trap and monthly fly predators and now the comments are all about how FEW flies there are! The solar trap is filling up with hundreds, maybe thousands of died flies and the predators seem to like the wet spots where the horses urinate and i am sure they are following along with the hauled manure to the back and continuing their awesome work! Thanks, I never gave these products the time they deserved and will recommend to my whole neighborhood!

Solar fly trap
Jul 12, 2019  |  By Dennis Lewis
Great product. I never realized I had so many flies in my yard. I must have trapped about 3000 flies. I put 1 trap in front and another in my yard. Great customer service, I spoke about cleaning the trap out, they informed me about video which was very informative. Best part is its all natural without poison or insecticides. I grow vegetables and don't want poisons around my property, also my neighbors have pets I want them safe. Arbico provides what I need, at fair prices.

It really does take 1-2 weeks to start working. I fermented the yeast as directed and was disappointed the first week of use, but by the second week it had caught a lot of flies! It does smell some but nothing like those disposable ones that reek of death - which is exactly why I bought it. Hope it continues to do well!

Quick ship, well packaged, great materials. Nice instructions. Works better than I ever expected. Showing off to guests. Solid sturdy but lightweight. Ties down and holds a lot of flies, moths and such. Good bugs stay away once the ferment gets going. We are so pleased to have found such a great organic well-made product that does what it says.

Unbelievable Fly Trap

Best $60.00 I have ever spent on fly products. It is unbelievable how many flies this product catches. No stinky flies in bags to get rid of. I can't recommend this fly trap enough. I'm ordering another one for my other paddock.

Works but really smelly!!!!!
Sep 20, 2014  |  By valerie
I would give the contraption a 5 for effectiveness but since I had to put it on my back porch I could smell the intense odor as soon as I opened the back door! It would have been good to put that part in the description. I had to place it on my porch as the fly's are horrible around my animal's food. I am trying to keep them off the area. I will say that it definitely works! The bowl is difficult to take off to clean as well. I think a better way of having the bowl held on would be ideal.

Aug 18, 2014  |  By Daniel
Really good product, unfortunately the bowls can be difficult to retrieve to replace the bait. Do you have any ideas for how to make this easier?
Owner Response: Hello Daniel, To refill the bowl with bait, simply lift off the top of the solar fly trap and pour the new bait in from the top. All of the cleaning can take place in this way as well. So, once the bowl is set in place, you really don't need to remove it to clean and reset the bait. Thanks for asking!
