Lures are sold separately and are necessary for trapping the gypsy moths.

Gypsy Moth Traps are effective as monitors of adult gypsy moths only. They can be used as an element of a gypsy moth IPM program, but should not be relied upon to control a gypsy moth infestation.

Since being introduced to the United States in 1869, Gypsy Moths have become one of the most destructive pests in our ecosystems. They are voracious defoliators in their caterpillar state and can ultimately kill more than 300 species of trees and shrubs.

Trapping and monitoring of adult moths (generally beginning in early summer) allows for population analysis and control management. This Gypsy Moth Trap is specially designed just for this species and must be used with the pheromone lures (SKU's 1230110 & 1230130). Please note: This trap does not include an insecticidal strip. Instead, you can improve pest capture with sticky adhesives like Tangle-Trap and Stiky Stuff or stiky traps like ARBICO Organics Blue Insect Traps.

This easy-to-assemble, rugged 1/2 gallon trap resembles a milk carton in size and shape. They are easy to hang with a length of twine or wire (not included). Secure the top and bottom with tape. Directions for assembly and placement of the gypsy moth traps are included with each shipment.

Follow included directions for milk carton trap assembly. Hang the pheromone lure within the trap. For improved pest capture, coat the inside of the trap with sticky adhesives like Tangle-Trap and Stiky Stuff or yellow sticky traps like ARBICO Organics Blue Insect Traps. Hang traps in trees 4-5 feet off the ground when adult gypsy moths are active.

Once deployed, the lures will work for 4-6 weeks. Expect shorter effectivity when temperatures are higher. Replace traps when they are full or dirty.

Go for the lures

I ordered just the lures and was able to easily make my own traps out of juice bottles. There are numerous sites and videos that will show you how to do this. The lures do work, and if properly placed will capture hundreds of male months and hopefully make a dent in the numbers next season. Also, I had a few lures left over from last year, kept them refrigerated and they appear to be effective this year as well. They came individually packaged.

These traps were a big disappointment. First, it was not clear that one had to buy the insecticide strips along with the lures in order to make the traps effective. They are very troublesome to assemble and require a special kind of stapler in order to put them together. I will stick with the jar-type lures that don't require assembly and kill the male moths by drowning, rather than having to use another pesticide.

Results were very disappointing. Very few moths caught, most escaped. I had better luck with homemade bottle traps with water and dishwashing liquid.

Not worth the effort except for the lures.

Assembly is generally straight forward but takes about 15-20 minutes. 1) The fold areas break exposing the paper layer of the "milk carton" like finish, they will not last through rain; 2) need to have your own hanging material for the lure (instruction state use a twist tie - not included); 3) Instruction say to use staples to close (I used tape); 4) Instructions say to hang insecticide strip below the lure (was one supposed to be included?????); 5) nothing to keep the moths inside or kill the moths, Youtube instructions showed a sticky pad to insert inside, not included; 6) instructions show to use staples and a binder clip to close? Not worth $40 for the lures and traps as you need to do engineering and substitution to make them work, I used the lures in homemade traps. I made my own sticky sheet with tape.

The traps are basically milk cartons and they do not come with the lures or anything that will trap or kill the moths once they enter the box. I could not believe I paid 20 dollars for milk cartons. I paid extra for the lures which do seem to attract the moths but Without the insecticide or sticky boards the moths just crawl right out the same openings they entered. Worthless. I could not get the insecticide when I contacted them either. They were nice and returned my call but could not help me. I tried rolled duct tape inside the cartons to maybe stick their wings but it didn't work. A waste money. The instructions indicate the insecticide is included but it's not. They are milk cartons with holes.

Total waste of money. Don't buy these if you are trying to trap gypsy moths. I caught two in the whole time I had it up. Two in three weeks!! I even put two lures in each trap! I'd pick no stars if it was possible. Usually your products work great!

These lures are very effective in trapping the male gypsy moth. I made some homemade lures out of plastic bottles and dangled a lure inside. Caught many moths (around 200 or so).

This product does what it says and does attract the moths. In my area in Michigan, we have an outburst of gypsy moth's this year. Being a Gypsy Moth survey for our county annually, I know what a nuisance they are and how hard they are to get rid of...These traps have attracted over 200 in each container and I have 3 out.
