Description

Weekly & Bi-Weekly Shipments Are Available. Please specify shipment frequency at checkout.

Trichogramma minutum is a moth egg parasite native to the eastern parts of the United States. It is commonly used in orchards, in vineyards and on ornamentals for preventative control of various caterpillars (Lepidoptera) and borers. When timed appropriately, Trichogramma releases can significantly reduce moth/caterpillar populations and limit pesticide use.

Biology & Life Cycle: Trichogramma wasps lay their eggs inside the pest eggs, stopping development. The larvae feed on the egg and emerge as adults. This development takes 10 days to develop within the pest moth egg, which turns brown or black as the larvae pupate. The adult wasps live anywhere from 7 to 14 days, depending on temperature and humidity. Female Trichogramma will parasitize up to 300 pest moth eggs in a lifetime. Eggs on cards usually hatch within 2-5 days.

Choose the correct variety for your region or crop type:

  • T. minutum - East of the Rockies.
  • T. platneri - West of the Rockies
  • T. pretiosum - General Parasitoid
  • T. brassicae - Low Lying Crops
NOTE: Emergence holes are evident under significant magnification after Trichogramma have hatched.

This Product Controls These Pests or Diseases: Trichogramma parasitize the eggs of more than 200 pests, including borers, webworms, loopers, leafworms, fruitworms, cutworms, bollworms, and armyworms (except beet armyworms).

Instructions

Timing the release is important – if you release too early there aren't enough pest eggs for the wasps to parasitize. Too late means that the pest eggs have hatched and you have a new problem - caterpillar pests. For best results, releases should be made before adult moths or caterpillars are spotted. If that is not possible, release as soon as possible once temperatures allow.

Release Rate:
Tabs/Cards

  • 1 tab for 3000 sq. ft. or 1 tab per tree in an orchard.
  • ½ to 2 cards weekly per acre for 2 – 6 weeks.

Bulk Eggs
  • Bulk eggs are shipped without a medium.
  • 1-2 per sq. ft.
  • 50,000 - 100,000 per acre.
  • Use Hanging Release boxes to distribute.

Release immediately upon receipt. Release Trichogramma at first flight of moths and every 7-10 days thereafter until infestation subsides. It is best to release in the early morning or evening by hanging the cards out of direct sunlight, below plant tops or in trees where moths have been seen. Cards or tabs can be put on stakes or hung from the edge of a pot. Do not touch the eggs.

Using traps to monitor for adults and visual inspection of foliage to monitor for moth eggs will help determine the best time to release Trichogramma.

Storage: Release adult wasps immediately after emergence.

Conditions: Place in a warm location (80-90°F), out of direct sunlight. Hang individual cards where moths are seen.

Environments: Outdoors, Crops, Orchards & Vineyards, Nursery, Greenhouse, Grow Room, Hydroponics, Aquaponics, Pond & Environment, Container Plants

Trichogramma success/failure
Jun 28, 2020  |  By John Cox
The service and product were wonderful. We did have a severe thunderstorm which caused loss of some cards. To counteract this possiblity, I learned to make a seperate hole on the card for better friction with the nail.

I've been using these for several years. Just found Arbico this year. These are the best quality I have seen and delivery is consistently on time.

A miracle
Jun 11, 2020  |  By JoAnn Graham
We have purchased Trichogamma Wasps three times before and always get the most amazing results. We had been plagued by bagworms for years and these solved the problem completely in two different houses. We have passed the info to friends who have purchased these and had the same amazing results. The worms are gone and never return. Fantastic service and fast shipping.

Excellent Webworm Control on Pecans
Jun 4, 2020  |  By Darren Pollok
My neighborhood has beautiful pecan trees along the street. That is, they are beautiful until the webworms start nesting. Releasing trichogramma wasps monthly during the spring and summer months vastly reduces the webworm activity. Arbico's service and delivery has convinced me that they are our go-to distributor when it comes to our neighborhood program.

It worked

Had moths in the lawn No big deal until they found the greenhouse and the caterpillars shut down the tomatoes. Just finished the 3rd weeks application and there are very few moths visible in the lawn. Hooray predators!

More Info.
May 17, 2020  |  By Nick D'Orazio
Like for beneficial insects I purchased, it would be helpful for you to give more info for what time of year in the purchasers area to release the insects. Can they take a frost hot weather, etc?. How to store and handle if not suitable for immediate release.
Owner Response: Thank you for the input, Nick. We will see how we can better convey some of the application timing information on the website and possibly in the package you receive. Generally releases can be made anytime after the last expected frost date depending on the pest you aim to control. You want to release them within 18 hours of receipt and they can be stored at room temperature or in a refrigerator until release. We will see how we can better convey some of the application timing information on the website and possibly in the package you receive.

Best find ever!
Aug 2, 2019  |  By Katie Ryan
Massive clothing moth infestation. Massive. In my home, everywhere. I couldn't possibly have cleaned everything as fast as I needed to and these little mini wasps have made my life so much easier. They have allowed me to catch up to the moths by cutting back on the number of them being born. I loved watching the moths hatch through my magnifying glass, but if you aren't interested in that, you can set them somewhere and they will hatch and go do their thing and you never even have to know they are there. They are small, but I still can't get over how small. They don't bother you, your food, your animals, nothing. If you have animals (I have three cats), if you care about the environment and you like finding safe and effective solutions to problems that can be persistent and frustrating to deal with, then this should be a go to if you even think you might have moths. I will be using these as prevention throughout the year just to keep the moths st bay because I live in an old building that is so hard to keep clean. The other amazing experience I've had is with the customer service. I emailed with one of the agents multiple times. Seriously, I was emailing her so much with so many questions and she was so wonderful, helpful and cheered me on as I faced this issue for the first time ever in my life, and alone. I truly felt cared for and Taylor, the person I emailed with went above and beyond for me. I have been telling everyone I can about this company and about these little wasps.

Fight against the Brown Tail Moth in maine
Jul 17, 2019  |  By Richard C. Golek
The population of brown Tail moths on my property has declined significantly after using moth egg parasitic wasps for the past few years.

They are alive

Received the shipment, and they started hatching quickly. We could see them walking on the card so we know they survived. The shipment came quickly.

Is all that packaging for trichogramma necessary? The second order came as ordered...
Owner Response: We do our best to limit excess shipping materials, but I can have our shipping department look into this for ways to reduce it further.

I think it works!
May 14, 2019  |  By Heather
I've been dealing with a clothes moth issue since 2013, and it's only been since I've started using trichogramma minutum that I've noticed a definite decline in the number of moths. It's hard to tell how effective this is only because the little buggers can go dormant, and if there are no eggs being laid, the parasitic wasps just hatch and try to do their job. I buy a 30 card dose about every 6-9 months, sometimes more frequently if I see evidence of moths (webbing, holes in woolens, etc). I'll probably continue doing this regimen for another year or so until I don't see any moth action. Arbico Organics has been great to work with, and I recommend trying trichogramma minutum if you are experiencing any clothes moth issues. It hasn't been a quick fix, and it may not resolve after one round. Short of introducing some sort of manufactured chemical treatment, I'm not sure there's a better way to handle clothes moths.

Moth control

Fast shipment but card warm when I got them all of them didn't seem to hatch
Owner Response: Hi Terry, If you want to check the eggs for signs of hatching, you can take a magnifying glass and look for emergence holes. You can also call us at 1-800-827-2847 with any questions or concerns you have!

Great Product
Apr 29, 2019  |  By Adam Salcedo
Within a few days at room temperature most or all of the eggs hatched and tiny wasps emerged. The indian meal moth population in my house has been significantly reduced with in a couple weeks with just 3 cards. Next week I'll order another round of 3 cards and some pheromone traps to finish them off. Thanks for carrying this.
