Description

Ships Overnight Only. Orders ship on Tuesdays. Order by Wednesday for shipment Tuesday. Minimum 6-day processing time for this beneficial.

Green Lacewing larvae, ideal for controlling aphids, are commonly used as generalist predators for garden and farm insect control. Predatory in the larval stage, Green Lacewing feed on a wide range of soft-bodied insects in various life stages. Lacewing larvae are preferred to Assassin Bugs and Minute Pirate Bugs in some growing environments as they are less likely to feed on other beneficial insect populations.

Green Lacewing larvae paralyze their prey with venom and feed on the body fluids of the pest. Each lacewing larva will devour 200 or more pests or pest eggs per week during their two to three week developmental period. Lacewing adults can survive the winter in highly sheltered areas; however, most overwintering occurs as pupae or eggs.

Optimal Temperatures: 67-90°F, RH >30%

Preferred Food: Aphids, Mealybugs, Spider Mites, Leafhopper Nymphs, Caterpillar Eggs, Immature & Soft Scale, Thrips, and Whiteflies.

For best results, cultivate habitats that encourage adult lacewing to reproduce and remain in the release area. Nectar, pollen, and honeydew stimulate their reproductive process. If these food sources are not available, adults may disperse. Consider planting annual and perennial plants (Good Bug Power Blend) to provide pollen and nectar throughout the year. ARBICO's Good Bug Power Meal provides an artificial diet for the adults and contains necessary nutrients for reproduction. Studies have shown that spraying field crops with supplemental food sources increases egg laying considerably.

Release Rates: Release Green Lacewing larvae at a rate of 2 larvae per 20 pest insects, 2 larvae per square foot or 10,000-50,000 larvae per acre. Larvae should be released immediately upon receipt. Treat severe infestations using integrated pest management methods. It may be beneficial to use a knockdown spray prior to releasing beneficial insects in these cases.

PLEASE NOTE: Ants and aphids have a symbiotic relationship. This is due to the fact that ants value the secretions of the aphids (honeydew) as a food source. The ants aggressively protect the aphids from other insect threats and the aphids produce the honeydew they crave. For this reason, before you begin any treatment to control aphids with predatory insects you will need to eradicate the ants in the area to be treated. Otherwise, they will wipe out any beneficials you introduce.

This Product Controls These Pests or Diseases: Alfalfa Weevil (Hypera postica Gyllenhal), Aphids (Mult), Armyworms (Pseudaletia unipuncta), Asparagus Beetles (Crioceris asparagi (common); Crioceris duodecimpunctata (spotted)), Bean Beetles - Mexican Bean Beetle (Epilachna varivestis Mulsant), Bean Thrips (Caliothrips fasciatus), Beet Armyworm (Spodoptera exigua (Hubner)), Beet Leafhopper (Circulifer tenellus), Black Scale (Saissetia oleae), Brown Almond Mite (Bryobia rubrioculus), California Laurel Aphid (Euthoracaphis umbellulariae), Caterpillar Eggs (Mult), Coconut Mealybug (Nipaecoccus nipae), Colorado Potato Beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata), Grape Leafhopper (Erythroneura elegantula), Greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum), Armyworms (Circulifer tenellus), Leafhopper (Empoasca sp), Mealybug (Planococcus citri), Mealybug (Pseudococcus sp), Mexican Bean Beetle (Epilachna varivestis Mulsant), Mites (Tetranychus sp), Oleander Scale (Phenacaspis sp), Potato Leafhopper (Empoasca fabae), Potato Leafhopper; Bean Jassid (Empoasca fabae), Psyllids (Mult), Scale (Mult.), Silverleaf whitefly (Bemisia sp), Spider Mites (Mult), Sweet Potato Whitefly (Bemisia tabaci), Sweetpotato Whitefly (Bemisia sp), Thrips (Franklinothrips sp), Tobacco Budworm (Heliothis virescens), Two-Spotted Spider Mite (Tetranychus urticae)

Instructions

Bottle & Bag Releases: Prior to releasing Green Lacewing larvae, tilt and gently rotate the bottle/bag to mix contents. Keep the container sealed until you are in the treatment area. Once you are ready to apply, open the container and gently tap contents directly onto plant foliage in areas affected by pests. Disperse throughout the growing area. It may be beneficial to mist down foliage prior to applications as it raises the relative humidity and allows the medium to stick more easily.

Hex Frame Releases: Peel back the organdy material covering the compartments little by little. Gently tap the larvae onto the target plants or treatment areas. The larvae should be released on the day of receipt. Focus on spreading lacewing larvae throughout the affected area when releasing. Mobility from plant to plant can be limited if plants do not touch.

Green lacewing larvae will feed for 2-3 weeks, after which they pupate into adults. At this time, you may wish to introduce more larvae or eggs depending on the severity of pest issues and your growing season.

Environment: Outdoors, Crops, Orchards & Vineyards, Nursery, Greenhouse, Grow Room, Hydroponics, Aquaponics, Pond & Environment, Interiorscapes, Container Plants

Storage: On receipt, place containers in a cool shaded area until ready to use. Do not expose to direct sunlight.

Viability Note: If you plan to check for viability, please do so upon receipt and prior to releasing the beneficial insects. Many predators and parasites are small and can be difficult to spot once released. If you believe there are issues with viability, please contact us at 1-800-827-2847 or customercare@arbico.com.

The good bugs
Feb 3, 2021  |  By KRISTAL J AGOSTINO
I believe green lacewings are the best choice to protect my house plant investment from pests. Process is easy, customer service friendly and helpful. And it wasn't scarey at all to set these guys loose in my house. The little guys are kinda cute. Will buy again!

Jan 23, 2021  |  By Aleina Coddington
I've order beneficial insects from many companies, however, Arbico-organics is by far the best quality! All the bugs were alive and ready for action. And I loved the packaging the bugs came in, made for super easy distributing & clean up. I will forever be ordering my beneficial bugs from Arbico-organics!!!!

Green Lacewing Larva Take Rapid Control of Thrips in Bioactive Enclosure.
Dec 7, 2020  |  By Josef Goldufsky
I have turned to Arbico Organics many times to help with controlling "nuisance pests" that are common of bioactive enclosures. Their SF nematodes work wonders with controlling fungus gnats without affecting springtails and isopods. After a sudden outbreak of thrips that nearly destroyed my morning glory flowers in one enclosure, I ordered the green lacewing larva, aka "aphid lions." After a couple of days (2-4 days) following their release, the thrips were completely gone. However, I would highly recommend the cardboard container if you choose to add these to a bioactive enclosure or potted house plants. Unfortunately, I ordered the larva in rice seeds and it was a trying task to separate the green lacewing larva and a number of eggs from the seed pods, as I did not want the pods to litter the enclosure. I still managed to get hundreds of rice pods in the enclosure which I am still removing day by day. These green lacewing larva provide a rapid response to controlling thrips (and I am certain other unwanted plant predators) and add an extra layer of biosecurity to bioactive enclosures.

Lacewing larvae did the job
Aug 6, 2020  |  By Pastor Tommy
Our farm team discovered aphids were multiplying quickly in one of our high tunnels. We placed an order for Lacewing larvae that same day. Our order came when promised and the larvae was applied the same day. Our pest problem was resolved quickly and with eggs already present for the next battle.

Tips and Tricks

I have been battling a mealybug infestation on my prized coffee tree that I keep indoors. The tree is very large, so spraying just cannot cover it. I have found that the lacewings along with using SNS 209 as a systemic has been the best combo. I will agree with others that the dispersal is messy and for me and the height of my plant that the recommended dispersal method just did not work. Just a lot of hulls on the ground or stuck to honeydew and not a lot of larvae. I found that for tall and wide plants, it is useful to put the hulls in a coffee filter and place them in the plant. The little larvae will scurry out, hopefully not eating too many of each other, and you can easily remove the coffee filters after a few days... I will agree with some of the reviews that claim that they do eat each other - which they are known to do. I will also add that if you are hoping to establish a breeding population and you have a cat... it is not going to happen. The new adults are really bad fliers and your cat is going to get wise of this. Mine sat every night for a week and a half to catch adults.

Amazing Results!

I'm growing Tropical Milkweed as part of creating a Monarch butterfly habitat. Aphids LOVE milkweed. Despite daily, and sometimes twice daily, "blasting" them off the plants with water, they were becoming difficult to control and the milkweed was dropping large numbers of leaves and was clearly stressed. I purchased 1000 Lacewing larvae and placed them throughout my milkweeds on the day they arrived. I was very happy to see MANY active larvae before I released them. I am just stunned - and HAPPY - by how quickly they eliminated the aphids! Approximately 3 days after release I didn't see ANY aphids!! My plants, now 2 weeks later, are still aphid-free! My plants are thriving and the leaf-drop has stopped. I can not recommend the Lacewing larvae enough! Buy them - you won't be sorry! Additionally, I am seeing Lacewing eggs on my plants. I know these are not from the recently released larvae but from native Lacewings already present in my garden. Wow! My goal of greatly increasing the native Lacewing population has been realized with the purchase of the larvae. Just be careful when you are "grooming" your plants - removing dead leaves and damaged branches. Look carefully at the debris before throwing it away - tiny little Lacewing eggs on hair-like projections are often seen. When I see them I gently separate that piece and place it back amongst my milkweeds.

The packaging was amazing. Came in a box with ice to keep cool. Arrived in good shape and I dispersed them in the evening to let them get started before the heat of the day.

Great Bug control!

These little guys are awesome. I release them on around 150 indoor plants to help maintain a healthy pest level. They always ship super fast and are really easy to release. They are hard to see at first but after a week or two you can see them at work.

Green Lacewing 1000 count larvae
May 5, 2020  |  By Katherine Funchion
I do not use any pest products in my home with 3 small children and pets around so I ordered these lacewings hoping to get my spider mite issue under control. My kiddos adore insects too, so it was a win win choice. I spread them out and waited. Witnessed a handful doing there work, but I haven't seen any activity since the first few days. I think a large amount of larvae possibly consumed each other prior to getting on the plants. Still hoping to see at least one lacewing out of 1,000.

This company was fast, affordable and all my insects arrived happy and healthy! I'd ordered a 400 count of green lacewing larvae, they've acclimated well and are thriving! I would highly recommend this company for any of your predatory bug needs!

These are great!

From my experience with another online company from Amazon that come in with rice husks, these are way better. I can visually see plenty of live lacewing larvae crawling around unlike when rice husks are used. I don't believe it's an effective enough barrier for them to prevent cannibalization. That said, I can say nothing about a similar product by Arbico since I haven't tried it. As far as it's utility, well, I can say with the combination of H. miles and this product along with pre-emptively treating my soil with boiling water, the combination of these 3 seemed to have controlled my fungus gnat problems. Boiling alone does not work but it does control the pest population down precipitously. In my experience they can always come back if the amount of boiling water is not enough to kill the pests more buried under ground. Alternatively, the cool wet soil can be an attractive bed for these flies to lay eggs on after. After placing both H. miles and these larvae, instead of infestation, I have a well-controlled pest population so much so that it takes me many minutes to sometimes hours to find a crawling or flying gnat. Alternativey, some sources recommend to take the top 2" of the soil and bake it, then seed them with beneficials thereafter upon cooling. I haven't tried this method but it does make since given my experience above.

Lacewing Larvae

I received this package early in the morning on Wednesday. I promptly put the larvae on my plants and let them go to work. I do believe that they are doing what they are supposed to. I don't think there were 400 in the grid like I ordered though.

Works great for aphids
Sep 6, 2019  |  By Rachel E Howe
I got the bottle of 1000 green lacewing larvae to help with the aphid infestation on my tomatoes. I sprinkled these little warriors over my plants as soon as the bottle came in, and there's been a significant decrease in the population since! My only gripe is that they don't come in smaller amounts, but I can hardly complain. I needed less than 100 larvae for my 32-sq-ft raised bed garden, but I split this between my garden and a family member's, and sprinkled them over my pots... it was survival of the fittest bug out there! Hopefully they'll lay eggs and reproduce for a second round of aphid-feasting. Great product, checked they were live upon arrival, and am very happy with the results.

Not worth it
Apr 24, 2019  |  By Adam Smith
I usually get thrips every April. Even when I try prevenitive methods I'll still get them. So I bought these to save a little money because of how expensive these freaking things can be. Shipping going up to $50 one day then the $60 the next. Well anyway they got rid of the thrips but all the spots I sprinkled the rice hulls got infested with mites. I have never had mites in my garden before I used this product. I wasn't going to leave a bad review until I contacted arbbico for a refund or maybe a better solution. The lady told me to raise my humidity and buy more predator mites. Lol no refund just spend more of your money and I might work better I dunno lol. Don't waste your time here. Not to mention she wasn't the most polite person on the phone with a condescending tone. (Duh they didn't work because theyre not for mites) I didn't have the mites till they got there. I rather of just kept th thrips!!! Only reason I tried this company out is because they're the only ones that carry larvea. There's other companies that will get you your product faster and with a lower price and not some out of this world shipping charge. This company will never get my return business.
Owner Response: Hi Adam, I am sorry you are dissatisfied. The rice hulls they ship in are sterilized to ensure no other bugs are being sent with the beneficials. It looks like the shipping charge was around $25, which is normal for next day shipping. We do recommend Green Lacewing Eggs for controlling recurring pest problems because they tend to establish themselves better than the larvae. If you have further questions about integrated pest management or proper use of biological contols, please call us at 1-800-827-2847.

Great products

I recently purchased 1000 count of green lace wings. They arrived alive as guaranteed. And worked beautifully! I tried other companies with no success and a Hassel when trying to get a warrantied product. From here on out I'll be working with Arbico for all of my pest control needs. Thanks Arbico!

Works well!

Excellent product! Aphids don't stand a chance! Thanks again
Owner Response: Glad to hear it! Thank you for the feedback.

Very disappointing
May 10, 2018  |  By Daniel R
Counted less than a dozen larvae in the bottle even after pouring out some of the contents onto white paper to see the larvae as suggested. For the price and cost of shipping not worth it. Maybe buying the eggs would be a better way to go.
Owner Response: Thank you for the input, Daniel. Please contact us regarding low viability or dead shipments of beneficial insects. We guarantee live delivery, so we can replace them if necessary. Contact us at 1-800-827-2847.
