European Earwigs were first introduced to North America in the early 1900s and they've been a nuisance ever since. These insects hatch in spring and spend their summers in warm, damp areas eating other insects, plants, ripe fruit and garbage. In late summer of early autumn, earwigs mate and begin setting up house for the winter – which is sometimes in peoples' homes. Many people consider this insect a flat-out pest, due to the damage it can do to fresh fruit, pollen, and plants in general. Others point to its habit of eating aphids, caterpillar larvae and other insects as a beneficial trait. In either case, they do not belong in homes and these traps can help you get them out of yours. These plastic traps open easily so that you can add a little water (with a drop of dish soap) and some organic bait (not included), like peanut butter. Earwigs are attracted to damp, dark places, and with the added draw of the bait scent, they will be drawn up the trap and into the holes on top. Once inside, they will not be able to climb out and they will die.
