Like many other Russian imports, this heirloom watermelon is sturdy, prolific, and can thrive well in cooler weather. It is not unusual for this vine to produce right up to the first hard frost. These plants will spread, but not as aggressively as other varieties, and will produce small, round "ice box" melons of about 10-20 lbs with an average 10" diameter. Fruit will have a dark-green rind (nearly black), small seeds and very sweet salmon-pink flesh. An excellent choice for a smaller watermelon with an exceptional flavor!
