Adding perlite to your soil mix can help reduce soil compaction for improved root health. Its porous nature also holds three to four times it's weight in water.

Mix rates and usage of perlite depends on plant needs and current soil conditions. Consider your growing situation when adding perlite and vary ratios as needed. Mix well with soil to avoid uneven drainage.
Raised Beds: Add anywhere from 10-30% by volume to improve soil aeration and drainage
Houseplants: General recommendations are 2 parts soil medium to 1 part perlite.
Container Gardening: Mix up to 50% by volume of perlite into soi evenly .
