Face flies (Musca autumnalis) get their name from their nasty proclivity to gather on the face of animals and feed off the secretions from the nose, eyes and mouth. Not only is this tortuous to the animals, this activity spreads a variety of diseases and leads overall to a decline in animal health. Additionally, face flies will swarm as they prepare to overwinter and can (and will) invade people's homes. This trap will help bring down the face fly population in your area without using any toxic sprays or smelly baits. Face flies are drawn to light, specifically bright white surface light reflected in a nearly horizontal plane. This trap will create this particular quality of light, which will bring the flies in, while the sticky surface will securely trap them.
Usage Rate: Use one trap for every 15-20 animals and place them every 70-100 feet.
You will need a stake (or something similar) to attach the trap to - it is not included.
Face Fly Trap Illustrated Instructions
Trap Assembly: You will need to get a stake, or something similar, that you will attach the trap to and put into the ground.
- Form the corrugated fiberglass into a cylinder (overlap the ends and align pre-punched holes). Insert brass fasteners and bend ears flat.
- Hold the Stiky Sleeve™ at one end and peel the release paper half-way back on the sleeve.
- Fasten the Stiky Sleeve end to the cylinder with the two giant paper clips. Wrap the sleeve around the rest of the cylinder while pulling off the rest of the release paper. Fasten the overlapped ends under the paper clips.
- Set the stake (not included) into the ground at approximately a 50-60 degree angle with the horizon and so the open end of the cylinder points north.
Trap Placement: Direct sunlight is best. Place where animals congregate for watering or feeding. Position on the other side of the fences from animals or where they will not trample it. Locate traps around the perimeter of areas. They can intercept migrating flies coming into your area. Use one trap for every 15-20 animals. Place one trap every 70-100 feet.
