NemAttack Steinernema carpocapsae Beneficial Nematodes are live microscopic organisms (non-segmented round worms) that occur naturally in soil throughout the world. The beneficial nematodes we sell are parasitic to insect pests that typically have a developing (larval or pupal) stage of life in the soil. They have been known to parasitize above ground stages of adults, nymphs and larvae. They will not harm mammals, aquatic life, birds, reptiles or amphibians. After being applied to the soil, the nematodes locate pests and enter through various body openings or directly through the body wall. Once inside, the nematodes produce bacteria that is injected into the pest's blood.

Beneficial Nematodes release the bacteria in order to create food and a hospitable environment for their own reproduction. As the food resources within the dead pest become scarce, the nematodes exit and immediately begin searching for a new host. As long as there is a suitable host, they will continue to survive and parasitize.

If you are a first time user of beneficial nematodes, please follow the illustrated application instructions for use with a hose end sprayer. If you have questions, please call us at 1-800-827-2847.

For most applications, beneficial nematodes should be mixed with water and sprayed directly into the soil. Hose-end sprayers and pump sprayers work best, but nematodes can also be applied with a watering can, through irrigation and fertigation systems, into certain hydroponics media, and by syringe injection.

What's The Application Rate?

The exact mix rate varies based on the type of sprayer used and the user's speed of movement through the area. The key is to spread the nematode solution as evenly as possible over the full area being treated. We recommend spraying down the area with just water using the sprayer for application to determine roughly how many tanks will be needed for full coverage.

When Should They Be Applied?

  • Apply when soil temperatures are above 42°F.
  • Apply early in the morning or predusk when temperatures are cooler and the sun is not so bright.

It is best to make at least two applications, separated by 7-10 days to stagger the life cycles of the nematodes and ensure complete coverage. In cases of severe infestations, applications should be made every 7-10 days or until infestation subsides.

Can I Keep Nematodes In Water Until I Apply Them?

Only mix up what you are going to apply at that time. While some nematodes are aquatic, insect-parasitic nematodes are not. Do not leave the nematode/water mixture sitting for more than 2 hours as death can occur. Please call us at 1-800-827-2847 if you have questions about using nematodes in hydroponic environments. For best results, always apply beneficial nematodes as soon as possible after mixing.

How Long Can Nematodes Be Kept Before Use?

Beneficial Nematodes should be used as soon as possible. Because they are living organisms it is best to store them unopened for no longer than 2 weeks in a refrigerator. DO NOT FREEZE. Once opened, use entire container within the same day.

Should The Soil Be Moist After The Nematode Application?

The soil should be moist at time of application and lightly watered immediately after application. After application, check the application area regularly and water as needed to maintain soil moisture. Generally speaking, water every 3-4 days if rainfall does not occur.

How Long Does It Take To See Results?

After application, the nematodes locate pests and enter the pests through body openings or through the body wall. This may take 7-10 days. Once inside, the nematodes inject bacteria that kill the pest insect within 48-72 hours by causing blood poisoning. Maximum control occurs over 2-4 weeks.

How Often Should Nematodes Be Applied?

Nematodes are recommended for use whenever larvae or grubs are present. Generally, this is during the spring and fall months. Because larvae feed on plant roots, beneath the soil surface, severe damage can be done before realizing there is a problem. Look for signs of an adult insect, such as leaf-notching. If adult insects are present, their eggs will be hatching soon. Keep in mind, one application may not eradicate a population of insects that has become established over a period of years.

Will Nematodes Live Through The Winter?

In general, harsh winter weather in most parts of the country guarantees a significant decline in the population of the nematodes. In most cases, nematodes (just like insects) will become dormant during cold weather. Any survivors would be few in number to provide adequate insect control. If your insect pest returns the following year, another application may be necessary.

When Nematodes Are Applied To One Area Will They Move To Other Areas?

Nematodes are microscopic in size and have limited range of horizontal movement. They move vertically into the soil until they find a pest to infect. As a result, thorough coverage of the area is important for achieving control.

Beneficial Nematodes
May 23, 2022  |  By Sue Bertoleit-Valdez
The nematodes always arrive soon after being ordered. I have used them in our yard for years. We no longer have to worry about being bitten by fleas. This is much better than spraying pesticides.

Did not see favorable results
May 2, 2022  |  By Samantha Airth
I placed the nematodes according to the instructions. Kept them wet for two weeks. I still see many ants around the house, so I don't feel they worked.

Cutworm nemesis
Apr 26, 2022  |  By Gerard A Ballanco
Initially skeptical, I am delighted with the cutworm control provided by this easy to use product. Several beds had become almost useless because of cutworms, despite using "collars". This was a desperation purchase. Beds were safe two weeks after application.
Owner Response: Glad to hear it! Keep monitoring and apply again when necessary.

Nematodes for Lea co trol
Apr 13, 2022  |  By Kayleen davis
We have two acres in Hubbard Oregon and two active dogs. We fought fleas for 6 years before discovering Arbico and NemAttack. We apply two applications a week apart in the spring after frost is behind us and it has made all the difference in the world for our dogs. We love it and the great customer service we get from the Arbico team. We would recommend it to everyone who fight fleas as we did. Thanks Arbico.

We rely on nematodes every year and they work wonderfully! Our neighbors don't treat their dogs or yard so our dogs and yard suffer. I am so glad I found you guys! Thank you

Live Nematodes for Sod Webworm Control
Jul 11, 2020  |  By Hugh Baker
Product was simple and easy to apply. I don't know yet how well it will work because it does not kill the moths, but the eggs and larvae. There is a lag between the appearance of the moths and the egg development. A Neighborhood Website posting says that the nematodes die out quickly in the heat we have here in Houston, TX. I keep lawn well watered, so I shall see.

Saved my garden
Jun 24, 2020  |  By Carolyn
It has been exactly 3 weeks since I applied the SC nematodes, and let me just say thank you. They saved my garden! I was losing at least half my seedlings to cut worms. Now, not chopped off stem in sight. They are my new microscopic friends!

Nematodes to the rescue
Jun 19, 2020  |  By Carolyn
I was having a horrible time safeguarding my basil seedlings from cutworms. It's been about 2 weeks since I applied the SC to my raised garden. It's been a HUGE difference. My basil is now thriving. The package came with an ice pack so the little guys stayed below room temp even the Texas summer. Super easy application and instructions. I would totally order from Arbico again. Thank you for saving my future pesto!

Simply effective
Jun 17, 2020  |  By Debarah S.
We have used the nematodes for flea control for the past 3 years. We have four dogs and have never had fleas since beginning the nematode based control. Nematodes are affordable, easy to apply, and chemical free. It's an absolute win-win for our family!

They Work!
Jun 9, 2020  |  By Jhana Chinamasta
After years of layer composting on the ground, I have begun experimenting with a large composting worm bin. I piled in the mashed food and the flies (of course!) piled in their eggs. I was horrified at how fast I was creating a "fly storm." I covered the bin with tight fitting plastic and ordered NemAttack, which I already use successfully for flea control. I applied the nematodes generously to the compost. After a few days, I uncovered the bin to see how things were going: I was amazed! The surface of the compost was carpeted with hundreds and hundreds of tiny dead fly maggots - it was really a thrill to see the little nematode fellows "at work." Thank You Again Arbico!

Nemotodes

Been using nemotodes for our lawn 3 years. We Never use chemicals , since we have our 4-legged babies. I know they work. I always know when I am late to reapply.

They seem to be working.
May 26, 2020  |  By Robert H. Skye.
I bought them to combat mole crickets. After I received them I took a look at them under a microscope and I was please to see happy little wriggling creatures squirming around, so I knew they arrived alive. A few days after application I did find a dead mole cricket and I was pretty excited. There have been some new mounds from mole crickets and I don't know if they are new to the neighborhood or are not affected. But there are definitely fewer disturbances in my soil and it seems to be working.

May 9, 2020  |  By Stephanie Piazzese
I think something is different, I did not receive any instructions with this shipment at all. I just did what I remember from Last year, too the detail, and will see. Last year, this was so good because I have pets, live next to a huge nasty field and have to keep fleas down.

Very happy with beneficial nemotodes
Apr 15, 2020  |  By Cyndi R
This is the second year that I have ordered beneficial nemotodes to help with a flea problem. I have 3 sensitive greyhounds and would never use anything that would be harmful to them so I'm thrilled to find a product that WORKS and that is completely safe to use around my babies. I received my order super fast and was able to get them out right away. I will be back next year for more!

We Love these Nematodes
Apr 15, 2020  |  By Truthwarrior
We have been using these Nematodes! We have been using this product for 3 years. We had a terrible problem with fleas, to the tune of picking 10-20 fleas off our dogs 2 to 3 times a days, a real part time job which we hated. I will not use poisons around my house for the health concerns of both the dogs and our health. Everyone was saying just use Adantage and these other product which are basically insecticides put on the skin which go in your dogs blood... HELL NO! I will not poison my kids! So anyway we have no fleas. Of course we live in CAm which has a major problem with fleas but on the other hand we have a mild climate so I believe our Nematode friend do live and not die because we do not have very cold weather. So basically we have 3 layers ( 3 year pf spraying) and zero fleas. We also took care of the flea in the house by using a natural product.

Iris
Apr 13, 2020  |  By KIP SPENCER GARWOOD-TULL
Sc Beneficial Nematodes - has saved my iris. Prior to routinely yearly use, my many iris would get iris borer. Since using the nematodes, yearly, I have many beautiful blooms and far less borers. Thanks!

First application
Apr 8, 2020  |  By Samantha Fearrington
I had some problems with the hose end sprayer that I had bought with the BN, I hope it did the job right. I have had a flea problem for several years and used to use chemical treatments and found out about BN recently. This is my first application and it seems to have knocked them down and I am not noticing them quite as bad. They do recommend another application around the fall if you have a bad problem, and I will do that to keep on top of the problem. I will be able to say more about my experience then.

Works
Oct 20, 2019  |  By Walter
These really seem to work at reducing the mole crickets. Seeing lot less activity after 2 weeks. My only negative is that they clump together and don't spray well as a result. They clog up the hose sprayer continually even after an hour in water. Better instructions of how to declump the nematodes would be helpful.

Amazing!
Aug 15, 2019  |  By Debarah Stevenson
We have 4 dogs and I really wanted a non-chemical way to defeat fleas. These nematodes are little miracle workers! We never suffer from fleas anymore-two years now. I recommend them highly-no scam, just results.

I love my todes!

I've seen a big reduction in flea bites since putting down these nematodes!

Perfect
May 6, 2019  |  By Wanda Sanders
Only place I will purchase nematodes. Even when we had problems and were unsure of application, we called the company and they helped us. The nematodes have been a blessing with keeping the fleas away for my two dogs and we live in a state where there are fleas 9-10 months out of the year. Excellent product

After months of battling fleas, I've finally found something that really worked. I'll certainly use this product again if I need to. Thank you, Arbico!

Nematodes for Fleas
Sep 11, 2018  |  By Jamie Serafin
I have been using nematodes from Arbico Organics for years to control fleas in my yard. This has been successful and I don't need to use any chemicals on my dogs or cats for flea prevention!

Did the job
Sep 11, 2018  |  By Bob
Living on Long Island fleas are a nuisance but my main concern is Lyme disease from ticks. My dog roams around the yard for 3 to 4 hours a day. Since I sprayed this product the dog has been tick and flea free. The only reason I rated a 4 instead of 5 is because the product kept clogging my hose attached sprayer (even with the screen removed). In order to get the product to spray correctly I needed to mix in a separate container and strain the product before putting it in the sprayer.

Not moving
Sep 2, 2018  |  By Tonya Baudoin
We received these and immediately opened and put under microscope and did not see anything moving at all. Thinking maybe they needed water to move we mixed product in water as told and still no movement. We sprayed the mixture down anyway being this is our first time hearing of these things. Not sure how it works but I would think they needed to be alive.
Owner Response: Hi Tonya, You did the right thing by adding water to stimulate some activity. While the NemAttack species move significantly less than the NemaSeek, there should still be some movement visible. We guarantee live delivery, so please call us at 1-800-827-2847 if you ever have worries about viability of a product.

Awesome

Wish I had done this YEARS ago! Solved all our flea, and other bug problems!

nematodes working?
May 24, 2018  |  By mikki hanks
I bought the nematodes for fleas a couple of weeks ago. I bought the farm amount and applied them on about 3/4 of an acre. As far as i can tell they have not worked yet. I applied flea treatments on my dogs too and inside the house Fleas are still on the dogs but not as many so I am thinking its the treatment i used on the dogs not the nematodes You can't tell when applying the nematodes if they are even alive. Hopefully by the two week mark which will be in two days I will see much improvement and less fleas
Owner Response: The two week mark is the point when you should begin seeing a noticeable difference in the pest population. Fleas can be a difficult one because of how mobile their adults are. If you neighbor grassy and/or wooded areas, using a repellent may help prevent adult fleas from entering your area from neighboring ones. This can help the nematodes have more of an impact in the treated area as adult fleas are not laying more eggs there.

Worked Like A Charm
Mar 28, 2018  |  By Miranda Marrero
I had fleas in my house and I figured they were coming from the yard. A friend recommended these beneficial insects to me and within a day of spraying my yard, a saw a huge difference. Now it's a week later and I haven't seen a single flea!!
Owner Response: That is great news! Thank you for sharing with us. Those fleas are tough to control, but the nematodes work wonders.

Don't Know
Mar 6, 2018  |  By Coy Hoffman
I received my order and I thought it was fine. Now I am not sure when I opened the package all my nematodes were stuck to gather in side the package. I hope they are still good I wont know for a few weeks.
Owner Response: Hello Coy, The nematodes being stuck together is normal. Sometimes the change in temperature can cause condensation in the package as well. If you see signs of mold or if they smell rotten, then we will reship them to you. Call us at 1-800-827-2847 if you have any questions or concerns going forward.

Works!
Jul 16, 2015  |  By Eleonore Aarsen
We have used beneficial nematodes for 2 Summers (2014 and 2015) and it appears to work. There are far fewer fleas in the yard and few to none on the cat. We noticed a dramatic difference in the amount of flea battling we have to do. Background: We live in NC in a hot humid climate and use no chemical pest controls of any kind. Our garden has sandy soil and we have many stray cats and squirrels. Our cat goes outside at least once a day. We spray nematodes on lawn and into all beds at sunset and keep it wet for several days after spraying. Before we started this we had enormous amounts of fleas.
