Best Choice For Beetle Grub Control!

NemaSeek Beneficial Nematodes, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, actively seek out pest insects in the soil. Beneficial Nematodes are live microscopic organisms (non-segmented round worms) that naturally occur in soil throughout the world. The beneficial nematodes we sell are parasitic to insect pests that typically have a developing (larval or pupal) stage of life in the soil. They have been known to parasitize above ground stages of adults, nymphs and larvae. They will not harm mammals, aquatic life, birds, reptiles or amphibians. After being applied to the soil, the nematodes locate pests and enter through various body openings or directly through the body wall. Once inside, the nematodes produce bacteria that is injected into the pest's blood.

Beneficial Nematodes release the bacteria in order to create food and a proper environment for their own reproduction. As the food resources within the dead pest become scarce, the nematodes exit and immediately begin searching for a new host. As long as there are suitable hosts, nematodes will continue to survive and parasitize in the soil.

If you are a first time user of beneficial nematodes, please follow the illustrated application instructions for use with a hose end sprayer. If you have questions, please call us at 1-800-827-2847.

For most applications, beneficial nematodes should be mixed with water and sprayed directly into the soil. Hose-end sprayers and pump sprayers work best, but nematodes can also be applied with a watering can, through irrigation and fertigation systems, into certain hydroponics media, and by syringe injection.

What's The Application Rate?

The exact mix rate varies based on the type of sprayer used and the user's speed of movement through the area. The key is to spread the nematode solution as evenly as possible over the full area being treated. We recommend spraying down the area with just water using the sprayer for application to determine roughly how many tanks will be needed for full coverage.

When Should They Be Applied?

  • Apply when soil temperatures are above 42°F.
  • Apply early in the morning or predusk when temperatures are cooler and the sun is not so bright.

It is best to make at least two applications, separated by 7-10 days to stagger the life cycles of the nematodes and ensure complete coverage. In cases of severe infestations, applications should be made every 7-10 days or until infestation subsides.

Can I Keep Nematodes In Water Until I Apply Them?

Only mix up what you are going to apply at that time. While some nematodes are aquatic, insect-parasitic nematodes are not. Do not leave the nematode/water mixture sitting for more than 2 hours as death can occur. Please call us at 1-800-827-2847 if you have questions about using nematodes in hydroponic environments. For best results, always apply beneficial nematodes as soon as possible after mixing.

How Long Can Nematodes Be Kept Before Use?

Beneficial Nematodes should be used as soon as possible. Because they are living organisms it is best to store them unopened for no longer than 2 weeks in a refrigerator. DO NOT FREEZE. Once opened, use entire container within the same day.

Should The Soil Be Moist After The Nematode Application?

The soil should be moist at time of application and lightly watered immediately after application. After application, check the application area regularly and water as needed to maintain soil moisture. Generally speaking, water every 3-4 days if rainfall does not occur.

How Long Does It Take To See Results?

After application, the nematodes locate pests and enter the pests through body openings or through the body wall. This may take 7-10 days. Once inside, the nematodes inject bacteria that kill the pest insect within 48-72 hours by causing blood poisoning. Maximum control occurs over 2-4 weeks.

How Often Should Nematodes Be Applied?

Nematodes are recommended for use whenever larvae or grubs are present. Generally, this is during the spring and fall months. Because larvae feed on plant roots, beneath the soil surface, severe damage can be done before realizing there is a problem. Look for signs of an adult insect, such as leaf-notching. If adult insects are present, their eggs will be hatching soon. Keep in mind, one application may not eradicate a population of insects that has become established over a period of years.

Will Nematodes Live Through The Winter?

In general, harsh winter weather in most parts of the country guarantees a significant decline in the population of the nematodes. In most cases, nematodes (just like insects) will become dormant during cold weather. Any survivors would be few in number to provide adequate insect control. If your insect pest returns the following year, another application may be necessary.

When Nematodes Are Applied To One Area Will They Move To Other Areas?

Nematodes are microscopic in size and have limited range of horizontal movement. They move vertically into the soil until they find a pest to infect. As a result, thorough coverage of the area is important for achieving control.

Fast Delivery and Easy to Use
May 22, 2022  |  By Colleen OMalley
We received our package with the nematodes 2-3 days after we placed the order. Instructions were easy to follow. Our front yard and gardens were full of grubs. Have seen very few since.

Nematodes work!
May 3, 2022  |  By Carol Smith
We love how easy it has been the last few years to have a veggie garden without cucumber beetles, a lawn without Japanese beetle grubs, and perennials that are free from spider mites and other insects, not to mention fewer ticks than anyone in our neighborhood. All without any chemicals. Timing is everything so we apply early spring and late summer. So far there hasn't been any increase in cost. We couldn't be happier.

Nemaseek Hb Beneficial
Apr 27, 2022  |  By Jane Marino
I ordered these from Arbico last year for asparagus beetles and it was unbelievably successful. Did not see ONE asp. beetle all season! I ordered again this year and just applied this past weekend; looking forward to another great asparagus crop! Arbico is wonderful. The website is over-the-top with info on products, applications, what is needed for particular pests, life cycle of pests, etc. Ordering is a breeze and Arbico delivers when the time and temp is right for your area of the country. A great company all around.

Great Service

Product is as described, lots of useful information on how to use it properly on the website. Called customer support, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Haven't seen the results yet because it's only been a week.

Beneficial nematodes
May 26, 2021  |  By Pat Baxter
I have ordered this product more than once and it has proved very effective. Always arrives in a timely fashion, just when Arbico has notified me it would arrive. It has solved my pesky mole problem and I feel good about using the nematodes.

Beneficial Nematodes
Oct 29, 2020  |  By Cydney Bott
So, they are quite elusive since they are extremely freaking small. I would say that you should get a specific sprayer to get them on the soil evenly. And all of the Japanese grubs that were flourishing are now not. So that is great. Highly recommend!

Worked on white grubs but not on ants
Oct 14, 2020  |  By Ella
Fast delivery from Arbico. The Nematodes were easy to apply using a hose end sprayer. They definitely had an effect on the white grubs throughout my garden bed. I found them dead and shriveled up a week later. But I did not notice any effect on the ants. I am not sure if the unseasonably hot weather in Southern California is to blame.
Owner Response: Thanks for the feedback Ella. Glad to hear you saw progress on the grubs! Treating an ant infestation with Beneficial Nematodes often requires higher application rates and repeated treatments due to the tricky nature of their colonies. Feel free to call a Product Specialist to discuss more. 800-827-2847.

Didn't work
Oct 3, 2020  |  By Tina
Didn't kill the grubs. I had to dig them out of my veggie garden, but I probably missed a few. Nematodes are not worth the cost.
Owner Response: Hi Tina. We have forwarded your concern to our customer service department. Effectiveness with Beneficial Nematodes can be improved (or compromised) in a few simple steps.

No more skunks
Jul 29, 2020  |  By Mike Crivaro
We were having a serious problem with skunks getting in our fenced yard where our dog goes and digging holes EVERYWHERE! We tried every skunk prevention method imaginable. Then we came upon an article on the benefits of nematodes. After the first application, the skunks were gone in 3 days. A little more than a week later we applied them a second time for insurance and for almost a month now there's been no skunk sightings. We'll apply fall and spring again to avoid the problem in the future! Highly recommend to anyone who has the same issue!!

flea beetles
Jul 10, 2020  |  By steve
For the past 2 years I have had a bad flea beetle problem in my vegi garden. They destroyed my eggplants, beets along with other crops. Either had none or very few crops. I have tried neem oil that when it's in the sun burns the plant. No good. I have tried DE. All that did was slow them down enough for me to manually kill them. Way too many to keep up with. This past april we had a few very warm days and one of my raised garden walls were covered completely with flea beetles. Ugggggg! Had enough. Did a search and came up with nematodes. Came to your site and bought the 10mil nemaseek Hb. Enough to do my vegi garden and the surrounding area. I applied it with a watering can. Wet the area, applied the nematodes and watered again doing all this just before sunset. Kept the area moist at all times during the 2 weeks. While waiting for the results to happen I just manually killed any that I have seen. 3 weeks later, there were none. It is now july and my eggplants and beets are very healthy and haven't seen a single flea beetle. Infest me will ya, now I infest YOU! A great product and will use again. Can't thank you enough.

We received our package in a timely fashion. The instructions were simple and precise.

Finally worked
Jul 5, 2020  |  By Jonathan
It took a couple orders, and me being worried that fed-ex left it in the sun and killed all the nematodes both times. About a week after the second (10 days apart) in 3 x 10ft raised garden beds and me picking through the dirt everyday to feed the grubs today the chickens it is fair to say that it's finally working. The grubs are turning white and dying off (much to the chickens dismay). I did find one big worm all bloated and dying and was wondering about how the nematodes effect worm life?
Owner Response: The beneficial nematodes are not known to parasitize worms in the soil, but it is worth noting.

My yard had been under attack from Japanese Beetle and a similar, but different, Oriental Beetle grub. This was confirmed after sending samples to a testing lab. After much research, I decided to try the nematodes. We were interested in results that were chemical free and not dangerous to bees, birds, pollinators and all the local wildlife. 4 weeks following applications for almost one acre of grass, I can report no obvious infestations that have ruined my grass in the past. We followed all the directions and the Arbico staff was most helpful. As the summer marches on, I look forward to a grub free yard. Thanks to Arbico and the "todes"!!!

Caught a June bug in a sticky trap.
Jun 25, 2020  |  By Solomon Hose
Still got problems with Japanese beetles, but when I dig; in my garden bed I am not finding grubs; therefore, it seems the nematodes are doing their jobs. I am satisfied with the results, but am concerned about how long they will last. I am concerned about how the weather and how "organic" fertilizer effects them.
Owner Response: Fertilizers should not affect the nematodes and they will overwinter if you do not have hard freezes over winter.

It worked last year so I'm doing it again.
Jun 25, 2020  |  By Tammy
Because of our dogs I don't spray pesticides on my lawn. After combating fleas, Japanese beetles and grubs for a few years, my holistic vet explained the eco system in my yard wasn't right and needed nematodes. I talked with a staff member at Arbico and they recommended the right combination for my needs. The neighbors even thanked me when they didn't have Japanese beetles eating their plants either. The dogs were flea free last year and we are hoping for the same this year. I applied it in June and plan to do it at least once more this year in August. If the weather stays warm I'll apply again in October. It's easy to apply with their bottle hooked up to my hose. So thankful for this healthy solution for our lawn and dogs.

Good stuff

First time I am using this product and so far this season seems to have less insects eating my greens.

Good Product, Good Service
Jun 15, 2020  |  By Pete
I ordered HB nematodes to kill japanese beetles that were eating my lawn. Due to warmer weather I paid the extra $10 for next-day shipping. The nematodes arrived the day after they were shipped as expected. I tested a small sample of the nematodes with a microscope and confirmed that they were alive. Followed the instructions provided in the package and applied the nematodes using a hose end sprayer. Applied half the day after the order arrived, and the second half 7 days later. By the time I applied the 2nd half, the brown spots in the yard had stopped growing so I assume the grubs are dead. Next year I need to order earlier in the year and apply before the brown spots appear. Great product and great service by ARBICO. I will reorder in the fall.

Beneficial nematodes
Jun 14, 2020  |  By STEPHINE FARVER
Ordered some beneficial nematodes to hopefully keep the Japanese beetles away from my garden this year. Last year I fought them all summer and they destroyed everything. Applied my nematodes last week and haven't seen any bugs around. Haven't even seen as many flies as I saw just the week before!

Forgotten Nematodes
Jun 14, 2020  |  By Leon G
For month and months and the loss of hundreds of pieces of sod ( St. Augustine grass), Never mind becoming Overwhelmed and frustrated I decided to Google " How to kill Lawn grubs". And bam ther it was Airbico and beneficial nematodes. I had successfully used them years ago and forgotten them. Needless to say I ordered an abundance of them and got them, followed directions and shortly after the first application the dead spots stopped spreading and the grub problem seemed to be gone. This morning, two weeks later I did a second treatment as directed. That should be it for those monster grubs!!!!

Helped with asparagus beetles!
Jun 11, 2020  |  By Lori Shorts
I've had trouble with asparagus beetles the last couple years and nothing was getting rid of them. I ordered the beneficial nematodes and applied them to my small patch with a watering can. I could see a big difference within the week. I split my delivery in two and applied another round about a week and a half later. I'm so happy I am getting some asparagus that we can eat this year! Thank you!

I misapplied the solution and when your representative explained what I had done wrong she had someone contact me by e-mail and your people sent an additional amount of NemaSeek so I could complete my efforts properly with you product. Also spoke with my gardener, told him about your company and product and sent him contact information for your company. Hope he gives you his business.

So far, so good!

I recently received nematodes and am optimistic they will help my grub problem. It is hard to gauge results so soon after applying, but so far things are looking good. I appreciate the quick delivery and easy instructions.

Nematodes Hb
Jun 4, 2020  |  By Robert Weinkauf
I sprayed beneficial nematodes Hb on my lawn in mid May prior to receiving better than 1/2" of rain. I was in the lawn digging out thistle and was pleased to find every white grub found was dead (brown on the back end). The European or masked chaffers have been a plague on north east Michigan the last 5=6 years and the skunks have devastated my turf by digging the grubs. I do not like dangerous chemical treatments as the birds feed on ground crawling bugs and worms. We must be responsible for what we put back on the earth.

NemaSeek Beneficial Nematodes work great!!!
Jun 3, 2020  |  By Scott Elia
I have been ordering Nematodes Arbico for years, and have never had an issue with these Nematodes not working. I use to have a bad problem with Grubs, and since using these Nematodes, my Grub problem has been reduced significantly. Arbico always sends out Nematodes quickly, and packaged with an ice pack to keep them alive. Thanks for providing a good product. It's hard to find a good company that is consistently reliable and keeps its price competitive.

Satisfied!
May 31, 2020  |  By Mary R Monk
Japanese Beetle Larve were taking out a couple of plants a day. I did the treatment as instructed and it did work. I plant to order annually and will be looking into some other issues that will need nematodes in other parts of my garden. I ordered beneficial nematodes from a well known company on Amazon twice before getting them here and they did not work at all. I am very glad to have com across ARBICO in my research.

It works!
May 29, 2020  |  By LF
I applied this product and two week later the grubs I saw were very sluggishly moving. Then another week later, and any grubs I dig up are not moving at all! Which I assume means they're dead! I'm going to say this is a success!

Fighting black pine weevil!
May 26, 2020  |  By Maureen
Excellent service from arbico organics. My nematodes arrived quickly & seemingly in good shape. I followed the directions & after wetting down the area to be treated, sprayed them over my yard. I made sure the soil did not dry out for a week. I am hoping the nematodes are doing their job fighting the weevil's larva. Fingers crossed! I'll dig around soon to see if there are any larva/grubs still in the soil.

Fourth year using beneficial nematodes and can't say anything bad about them. Had devastation from white grubs, iris borers and scarlet lily bugs but no more! Love that I control them without harmful insecticides. After researching BN I can't believe everyone is not using. Arbicos products came as promised, must be alive and well because my garden is beautiful, see no grubs when I dig.

Best Organic Grub Buster
Apr 19, 2020  |  By Alyson Sharron
Our neighborhood is infested with European chafer beetles and many lawns have been completely destroyed. We found an infestation in our lawn and did two applications of NemaSeek last fall, followed by another this spring. So far so good - we were able to stop the damage from crows pulling up our lawn to get the grubs. Arbico Organics customer service was very helpful and my orders arrived promptly.

FedEx sucks
Oct 30, 2019  |  By Randal Livingston
Product seems fine. Delivery by FedEx left the package on the gate in the sun, 0.75 miles up my driveway. If there was another method for delivery in this area I might be inclined to buy more product, but with this FedEx guy I don't think I'll be ordering anything else unless you can do UPS or USPS, not FedEx.
Owner Response: Hello Randal, We can ship the nematodes via UPS if requested during checkout. You can do so in the Special Instructions & Comments section.

Nematodes vs. Grubs
Oct 15, 2019  |  By KV
So far grubs are alive and well two weeks after a thorough application of nematodes followed by watering. Still hoping for results.
Owner Response: Depending on the level of infestation, it may take more than that initial two week period to begin seeing noticeable changes in the pest population. If you ever have questions about what you are seeing, please give us a call at 1-800-827-2847 so we can work with you to find the best possible solution!

Lawn care
Jul 5, 2019  |  By Joshua D. Smith
The beneficial nematodes worked fantastic! I've maintained an organic lawn for several years but no matter what I did had brown patches and overall an anemic looking lawn which was susceptible to weeds and crab grass. After literally one application of the beneficial nematodes my grass became greener and thicker which then choked out the weeds. I applied a second application to my plants and shrubs and noticed an improvement almost immediately! I'm completely sold on beneficial nematodes and even bought some for my dad,

Nematode Warriors to destroy your beetle problem
Jun 29, 2019  |  By Patrick Glynn
We've had a garden for the last 8 years (Virginia). Three years ago, we were found by cucumber and squash beetles that devastated our crops each year. We only found out about nematodes during last year's growing season. We treated our soil during last year's season (too late to save the crops, but just in time to find all the larva). We treated again in the fall and in the spring. After a three years of infestation and lost crops, we haven't seen either the squash or the absolutely evil cucumber beetles. We plan to treat with nematodes every year from here on. Arbico's Nematodes are an absolute for serious gardeners that have any type of pest problem (they also crushed our japanese beetle population that were going at our raspberries). Love those microscopic beetle killers :)

I'm happy with the purchase. I have seen an improvement in the rock garden that I have. Even my neighbor asked me about what I did so I know that the what I did was the best thing. Having a BS in Soil Science I know when organisms are their. I would have given 5 stars but there was no instructions that came with them, so I had to look at the website to see how to apply them properly.

I can highly recommend using Arbico Organics' nematodes for battling grubs in the lawn. I order them once a year and apply them in mid-August for my area (Illinois). My lawn has remained nice and green through fall as well as the following spring. And Arbico Organics will ship the nematodes within two days or if you prefer you can request a certain time for them to arrive. I am very happy with the product and this company.

I've been using the Nemaseek and the beneficial wasps since early March. I've noticed a big drop in moles, even found some dead grubs and mole crickets. And so far I haven't seen a caterpillar or moth, knock on wood. And when I had an issue with an order, customer service took care of me immediately.
Owner Response: Glad to hear it! You're doing the right thing by attacking the problem from multiple angles. Good luck through the rest of the growing season!

I applied these nematodes just before a good rain. I normally come in from the garden carrying half a dozen ticks. 2 days following application,I came in with only 1 tick and none since. Very proud of these little buggers!

Happy Plants
May 21, 2018  |  By Mary Gardner
I received my order of those tiny nematodes and applied as instructed. Right now, I have no way of knowing if they are eating their way through those bad grubs and bugs; however, my plants all seem to be healthy and happy.
Owner Response: It normally takes close to two weeks for the nematodes to make a noticeable impact on the pest populations being treated. If they plants look healthy and happy though, that's generally a good sign the grubs are taking a hit.

Works well!
May 16, 2018  |  By Rachel
I've been using Arbico's nematodes on my lawn and garden for 3 years. We had had a huge infestation of european chafer beetles and their destructive grubs, as well as overwhelming amounts of ants. This had all led to failure of any re-seeding efforts I made on my organic lawn. Since I began using the nematodes, my grass grows much better. Additionally, I have used the nematodes under trees affected by winter moths, and that has controlled that issue as well. Great and safe product!
Owner Response: Glad to hear it! They are wonderful little helpers!

Great job again

I used the beneficial nematodes at another house in central Florida in the past. Then as now it did a great job of controlling the grubs that can be as big as your thumb.

Great!

Before, I spent a small fortune on chemicals to control grubs in my lawn without success. I have been using NemaSeek for the past 3 years (twice yearly) and have no problems with grubs now. I also have not had near as many fire ant mounds and my dog hasn't been getting fleas or ticks. As a side note, I live in central Texas.

Buyer beware

I ordered these but the delivery company left them in a hot rural mail box rather than delivery to the house. Arbico insisted the organisms would be viable and would not initiate a claim. My garden looks horrible because they insisted the nematodes would work so I didn't use a pesticide. The representative Joanna was sweet as could be but I am out nearly $50.00 because of loss of organism and price for shipping on a poor shipping system.

Great find

For 15 years I tried all of the traditional grub treatments for my lawn. They all failed and the mole tracks were incredible. Five years ago I tried Arbico's NeamSeek nematodes with much success. I have continued the nematode treatments three times a year-no mole tracks. It also helps with the beetle, flea, and tick populations on my grassy acre.
