These are the beans that bring back images of Grandma snapping beans on the front porch swing. For well over a 100 years, these beans have delighted people with their outstanding flavor. These tall (6-8') organic pole beans produce stringless and abundant 6-8" long silvery green pods that are generally flat and straight, but some may have a more crumpled appearance. These beans remain tender and flavorful even in the larger pods; but, if you harvest them young and frequently, you will have an abundance of deliciousness throughout their extended growing season. These beans will be scrumptious no matter how you like them - fresh, canned or even sautéed. Certified organic.
Soil Temp. for Germination: 65-85°F
Days to Emergence: 8-16
Days to Maturity: 70
Sowing Outdoors: Direct sow in warm soils (+65°F) for uniform, rapid emergence. Sow at a depth of 1" and space seeds 2-4"apart. Do not soak seed prior to sowing. Beans are a favorite of birds, so discourage them with flash tape or row crop covers. Coat seeds with inoculant to promote healthy, vigorous plants.
Growing Tips: Most pole beans are grown on trellises. To trellis pole beans, stretch 2 wires between 2 stout posts (1 wire 10" high, the other 6-8' high). Using rough string, zigzag between wires to create V-shaped trellising.
