Fire Ants are notoriously hard to get rid of and even harder to live with. Luckily there's Fertilome Come And Get It II Fire Ant Killer to combat these pest insects. Ants find this spinosad-based bait very appealing - so much so, that they will take it back into their mound to share with the rest of the colony - including their queen. Ants start dying in 24-36 hours with mound or colony destruction in 3-14 days. Broadcast applications may take longer.
As with most other pest control products, using this product pro-actively and correctly will increase your chances of success in eliminating the colony. Soon after mating, fire ant and harvester ant queens fly into an area, burrow into the ground and start laying their eggs. This is the beginning of a colony. It is not uncommon for there to be several flights in summer months, often right before it rains. Several weeks after the eggs have been laid, the new mounds begin to appear. You probably won't see the queen laying her eggs or know when that a colony is forming until you see the mound. But, by using a combination of mound and broadcast applications of this insecticide, you can control visible mounds while preventing new mounds from forming.
