Despite many different creatures wanting to kill them (from fear and for food), this snake has managed to thrive in the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It has adapted to live in areas as diverse as forests, rocky areas, coastlines and prairie. In captivity, these snakes can live up to 20 years.
