Originally from Central and Southern Asia, spinach thrives when temperatures stay below 75°F. For this reason, it is best grown for early spring, autumn and overwinter cultivation. Verdil spinach has shown itself to be a real standout in these conditions. The large smooth-skinned leaves of the Verdil have a particularly pleasing aromatic flavor. To maintain this craveable flavor, be sure to harvest before it bolts. This spinach can be steamed, but its unique flavor is probably best served raw.
