The Green Machine melon was bred by Merl Niedens, a master in the field, by crossing Kansas and Jenny Lind melons and his expertise is evident in this exemplary melon. The Green Machine name came about due to its amazing output of fruit at an incredible rate. It is also known as Ice Cream Melon because its size makes it a perfect bowl for a scoop of ice cream. This compact plant is a perfect candidate for small backyard and container gardening, making it convenient to harvest the near daily offering of melons. The succulent green-fleshed fruit is exceptional and sweet whether you harvest the fruit when it is softball sized or wait until it maxes out at about 4 lbs. When you see fine cracks around the stem area, this melon is ready to be plucked and enjoyed.
