Red Russian Kale is pretty enough to plant for its beauty, but its hardiness and nutritional value make it invaluable as a food source. These seeds will produce large (2-3') plants with purple stems and large, flat greyish-blue leaves that look somewhat like oak leaves. Its Old European origins show in this kale's ability to thrive in cold weather. You can harvest into early winter and, after a frost, its purple coloring becomes deeper and richer and its flavor will sweeten. Enjoy this beauty steamed, stir-fried or fresh in salads.
