Framed Flower Mantis Pair

We are pleased to offer the artistic work of Katie VanBlaricum, whose fascination with bugs has led her to truly unusual and inspiring pieces. She mounts insects on subtle backgrounds and presents them as framed art. She acquires the sustainably farmed insects – in this case Flower Mantises – from around the world, rehydrates them and then painstakingly positions them for display. A buttercream background with a double black and white matte show off these remarkable mantids. The black wood frame is almost 8" x 10" and one inch deep. It is ready to hang on the wall or can stand upright. What a spectacular gift for a bug lover!

The Flower Mantis has two flashy wings that make them look like a flower. The smaller mantis on the bottom is the lighter-colored male; the more colorful one on top is the female. Their scientific name is Creobroter gemmatus and they are native to Java. Each one is about 2 inches tall.
