Beet Armyworms

Beet Armyworm (Spodoptera exigua)

These moths originated in Southeast Asia and are now common in the United States. In warm areas like Florida and California, they can sometimes be found year round. The beet armyworm moth has a wingspan of 25-32 mm, and is mottled gray or brown with a pale spot near the center of each wing. They infest weeds, trees, grasses, legumes, truck crops, and field crops. Damage is often characterized by skeletonization and profuse silk webbing. In most populations of the beet armyworm, a resistance to insecticides has developed.
