Clear-Water® Barley Straw Bales are nature's way to help clarify pond water.
Made from barley straw, these easy-to-use bales decompose in water and release enzymes that will help break down and inhibit the growth of algae. Clear-Water® Barley Straw Bales can be used year-round, last up to six months, and are safe for fish, plants, and other animals.
All bales come wrapped in netting to keep the straw together. They have cork centers to ensure flotation. Bales must be kept floating on the surface at all times. If the bale sinks, remove it, allow it to dry and replace it on the pond surface.
Activation is dependent on the decomposition of the straw and can take about 30 days. Bales are active for approximately 6 months. For uninterrupted treatment, add a new bale during the 5th month. This will allow for activation to occur at the time you remove the old bale.
Usage Recommendations: Select the proper size of bale for the desired treatment area by calculating the quantity of gallons of water. Bales should be placed on pond surfaces near waterfalls or filters.
Calculating Pond Volume in Gallons: Volume (length x width x height) multiplied by cubic ft. (7.5) to convert to gallons.
Small Barley Straw Bales: Each will treat approximately 500 gallons, come 2 per package, treats about 1,000 gal.
Medium Barley Straw Bales: Each will treat about 1,000 gallons, come 2 per package, treats about 2,000 gal.
Large Barley Straw Bales: Treat approximately 3,000-5,000 gallons.
