*These are units of measurement, not warranties or guarantees of performance. Fly Eliminators consist of approximately 90% Nasonia species on average per season. The total seasonal cost of Fly Eliminators depends on the recommended number of shipments which may be different than what competitors may recommend. We recommend releasing a shipment every 3-4 weeks throughout the fly season, but releases ranging from 1-6 weeks are not uncommon. Customer experiences may vary. The quantity required and frequency of application can differ according to region, size and condition of property or stables, severity of fly problem, neighbors, manure management, number of animals and start date of program. | | ARBICO's Biological Fly Control Information & Instructions | | | The information below will help answer most of your questions about your Fly Eliminators. If you have additional questions, please call us so we can answer all of your questions. Toll Free 1-800-827-2847. About Fly Eliminators Fly Eliminators are gnat-sized, nocturnal, burrowing insects that do not bite, sting, or harm humans and animals. Adaptable to all climates, these parasites reproduce in two to three weeks, thus constantly reinforcing the beneficial population. Expect a reduction in general fly population in four to six weeks. At night ARBICO's tiny parasites seek out the pupa of the fly. They make a tiny tear in the pupa to feed and the females deposit (oviposit) their eggs within the pupa. Those eggs in turn begin to develop and feed on the developing fetal fly... eliminating flies. In about 17 to 21 days those parasites will hatch out of the fly pupa and begin the cycle all over again. Releasing parasites is fun and something the whole family can do together. It is safe, non-toxic, USDA approved and very affordable when compared to poisons! Life Cycle of the Fly The fly lays an egg that looks like a speck of sugar. Within a short time, literally hours, the egg develops into a larva that we call a maggot, which is microscopic and so small it is almost impossible to see. This little maggot is light sensitive and with it's strong little body writhes and undulates itself deep into the ground and manure away from the outdoor light. Once buried, it continues to feed and grow until it reaches a certain size and then it pupates. This is the cocoon stage of the fly which looks like the size and shape of a piece of rice and chocolate in color. Shipment and Release Rate Fly parasites are shipped via US Mail or 3 Day FedEx Saver. Once they arrive, examine the clear plastic bag for significant insect movement. When you see 30 50 insects crawling around the top of the bag, it is time to disperse the parasites. You can release the insects before they hatch; however, they must be covered with a thin layer of manure or ground cover to prevent birds and ants from consuming the unhatched fly parasites. If you do not see movement within the bag, you can speed up the process by placing the bag in an old pillowcase and setting it on top of your hot water heater. Make sure you check them every day.
Where To Release Fly Parasites Release insects to all potential fly-breeding areas. Some "hot spot" locations include the following: Manure and Urination Areas: • Inside barns, stables, stalls, hospital pens, or loafing sheds • Around corral posts. Paddock areas, along fence lines, and other frequented dropping sites • Around the perimeters of manure piles, pits, bins, or carts • In kennel or coop areas where manure accumulates Watering and Feeding areas: • Under water troughs, around barrels, buckets, or other devices • Where spilling or leakage occurs • Around bathing areas, drainage sites, and perimeters of run-off or stagnant pools • Areas where feed, straw, or hay have decomposed Other Fly-Breeding Areas: • Around compost piles and family gardens • Alongside garbage cans How to Release Your Fly Eliminators The insects are shipped as parasitized pupae in a wood chip medium and are dispersed by releasing a small handful at "hot spots". To release, scratch a 1-inch hole in the ground with your boot heel, drop in a small handful of sawdust and pupae, and cover them with straw, earth, or manure to protect them against wind, birds, ants or pesticides. The amount of parasites to release depends upon the size of the "hot spot". Use as small as a teaspoon or as large an amount as a handful. These parasites travel 30 to 50 meters in search of visible fly larvae and pupae. Seed as many hot spots as possible with your first application, concentrating heavily on the obvious fly-breeding areas. Repeat this release procedure in slightly different spots on subsequent applications. In this way, new cultures of parasites will be evenly distributed throughout the fly season. DO NOT place the parasitized pupae in standing pools of water or in the center of manure piles. Instead, apply them around the perimeters. How To Store DO NOT leave insect shipments in direct sunlight or areas of intense heat. Store them at room temperature (approximately 70 80 degrees F) until they begin to hatch. If needed they can be stored at 42 degrees F in a refrigerator for 3 - 5 days. SPRING AND WINTER: Maintain parasites at 80 degrees F to ensure proper hatching. Temperatures below 80 degrees F slow the process. SUMMER AND FALL: Warmer temperatures may cause hatching to occur more quickly. It is normal to receive your shipment and find parasites in the process of hatching. Release immediately. Hatching will continue over the next several days as the product has several stages of maturity. When To Release Fly Eliminators Begin your program when spring temperatures first arrive. It only takes three consecutive days of 40 degrees F weather for the overwintering fly populations to start developing. Each female fly will lay 1,000 eggs in her lifetime, so it is very important to release the fly parasites before you see the first fly of the season. The released fly parasites will start parasitizing the overwintering pupae, thereby reinforcing the indigenous fly parasite populations and killing it's host before the fly develops any further. Continue releasing the fly parasites throughout the entire fly season, until the first significant frost. It's important to release all recommended batches. The last batch will overwinter for the next fly control season, reviving around the same time the overwintering fly, still in the pupae stage, starts to develop. Notify an ARBICO consultant if any of your conditions change. ie. You have more animals. Ants are becoming a problem. Your next door neighbor just brought home 10 calves and they are 50 ft. from your back door. Use fly parasites in conjunction with EM-1 Microbial Inoculant to help break down organic matter along with good manure management. Pesticide Susceptibility Do not spray the facility at the same time you release the insects. If you must spray, we recommend that you spray 48 hours before or after releasing the parasites. Specialized or Custom Fly Control Programs: If you don't see a program that fits your needs, we will be happy to help you set up the proper custom program. Call us to speak with one of ARBICO's knowledgeable consultants. Questions Call 1-800-827-2847 | |
Standard shipping via US MAIL is included in the price of each shipment. IMPORTANT: Select US Mail as shipping method during checkout to avoid additional charges. Shipping Upgrades are available if you don't check your mailbox every day to insure your insects arrive safely. There is an additional $3.00 per shipment for the following methods: UPS 3 Day, UPS Ground or FedEx Ground There is an additional $12.50 per shipment for the following methods: UPS 2nd Day Air or FedEx 2 Day Helpful Hint: If you add items to your order that you want to ship with a method that would inadvertently upgrade your Fly Program, place a second order for those items. Adding items to your order that have upgraded shipping included will not upgrade your Fly Program shipping. Just choose US Mail at checkout, the other items will still be shipped with the method designated.

Arbico makes THE difference!
- By Nona Lendacky on Jun 6, 2011
A few years ago I started using Arbico products. I had 13 horses on our property. The huge flies we used to have - disappeared! Prior to using fly parasites, even with less horses, it was horrible! What a difference! My husband asks me each spring to order them!
Work Great
- By Horsie on Jun 23, 2011
These fly eliminators work much, much better than I would have imagined! I have been using for a couple of years now and won't go without them!
best fly control i ever used
- By Greg N. on Jun 5, 2011
I am just over a month into the use of this fly control system and have already seen a dramatic effect on the population of flies. I have 3 horses and over 40 chickens and have not had any luck with any type of system until now. I will only use fly eliminators from now on. Thank you for this great system.
Flies galore
- By Becky W on Jun 9, 2011
This weather has been whacked out, so there's a huge fly population very early. The fly program has kept up nicely.
Can't live without!
- By Catherine on Feb 17, 2011
These do a great job at keeping the fly population down during the summer...especially IN the barn.
Best fly control money I ever spent
- By Scott H on Feb 17, 2011
I started out using Spalding Labs many years ago, but, I've found Arbico to be cheaper and they ship more frequently (which improves the fly control). If you start a little early (before flies appear) and follow the schedule (including the application tips) you'll be amazed at the results. I've been with Arbico for many seasons now.
Love those fly parasites!
- By Leslie H. on Feb 17, 2011
I have been receiving fly parasites for several years now and just love them! I no longer have to close up the barn every couple weeks and bomb with fly killing chemicals. The shipments come right on time and these bugs really work! Better way for sure to get rid of biting flys. Thank you Arbico!!! Leslie
Fly Eliminators
- By Pat on Mar 4, 2011
Been using the Fly Eliminators for 5 years. Although it doesn't totally eliminate all the little buggers, it sure takes care of most of them. Where I really notice the difference is that we can sit on our deck and not be bothered by the flies like we were before. Every year the number by the horses seem to be less.
Zone C Fly Control Program - 2011
- By Debra P. on Mar 7, 2011
I have been using Fly Eliminators for 6 years now and absolutely love the program. While other horse farms have an abundance of flies - mine has very few. My horses, boarders, students and especially myself are much happier because of the program. Thanks.
Goodbye flys
- By Mary Ann P on Mar 15, 2011
This is my 4th year using Arbico Fly Eliminators, and I have to tell everyone I know about how very helpful the little critters are. I also use fly catchers along with the parasites. Thank you for a great discovery.
I am Impressed!
- By Arlene Buswell on Jun 3, 2011
This is our first time using the fly eliminators. Didn't really know what to expect. I cannot believe that my manure pile has NO BUGS buzzing around it, and the horses seem to be doing much better. I believe I am hooked on fly eliminators now!
Try Fly Eliminators--they work for you
- By Kathy P. on Apr 3, 2011
Fly Eliminator work. We have been using them for several years and notice less flies each season. Between the horse stalls and house we were hanging 8 fly trap bags, now only 3-4 are needed to make a barrier to the house. BBQ season is so much nicer now that the flies are under control with the Fly Eliminators. When out with other "horsie" people we tell them how great a control program this is and they should try the program. We are return customers and will be for a long time.
Bugs YES, Stinky Traps NO
- By Rita B on Apr 22, 2011
My husband didn't want me to buy bugs to turn loose to eat flies. He relied on the big stinky traps and would gag when he had to empty them. One year, I didn't tell him that I was turning bugs loose but the gig was up when a shipment of the fly paraites arrived while I was away for a few days. I finally had to confess. He wondered why the flies weren't so bad that summer. Now I buy the fly parasites every year and the big stinky traps were thrown in the trash.
Fly Eliminators

Great value
- By KMCK on Jun 12, 2011
We have been using the fly parasites for over 14 years. Visitors to our farm are amazed that there are hardly any flies even though the house is close to the barn and fields. We love these little guys!
Never a worry!
- By Gwen on Apr 23, 2011
Great value - Arbico has a special offer where you get an extra shipment. Never a worry - orders arrive on time to give continuous fly parasite coverage. Makes a noticeable difference!
fly parasites
- By Abbie on Apr 25, 2011
Ever since I lived downwind from a dairy farm in Minnesota, I've used Arbico's fly parasites. Sure, there are still flies, but everyone comments on how few there are, compared to their own ranches, and they all want to know how I did it. In all the years I've used these little guys, I've only had one batch that didn't hatch. Arbico was quick to replace them, no questions asked.

Best Fly Control
- By David & Pam on Apr 26, 2011
These little critters are the best way to control flies in and around our stable of 5-6 horses. Our horses no longer need to wear fly masks in summer.

- By Kari A on May 2, 2011
Timely first shipment (with bonus amount) delivered in easy fashion. Hatching began in a couple days and release was easy and fun for my 5yo son helping.
Works great.
- By Jim in NH on May 2, 2011
We bought a house in the fall of 2007 and the flies made the yard useless on anything but the windiest of days.
Starting the next spring we have not missed a season without Fly Eliminators. Even with 5 horses on 2 acres the flies have never been a problem.
Very satisfied
- By Jeanie Smith on May 2, 2011
I have been receiving the fly eliminators for going on 3 years now. Although they do not get all the flies that we have here, I have seen a significant difference. I am very satisfied with the product!

This is my second year using fly eliminators and I can't tell you how amazing these little things are! They kill the flies and fast too! They are totally worth the cost!! Thanks!
Fewer flies every year
- By Lurleenp on May 2, 2011
We are seeing fewer flies each year, just started our fourth year with Fly Eliminators from Arbico Organics. We have 18-20 horses at any given time, on 40 acres, with very little manure management. Even so, by spreading the beneficials and keeping a concentrated area around the main manure pile, there is a difference. Our horses roam free, and have spent less time in their run-in shelter during the summer when flies can drive them indoors. Well worth the investment, and customer service has been friendly every time.
Great fly parasites
- By Sue C. on May 9, 2011
Have used Arbico for years. Easy to order, easy to utilize the fly parasites. The parasites do a great job and I wouldn't want to be without them during fly season. The company is reliabe and has a great product.
Can't go without them
- By Sharon Lee on May 13, 2011
I don't know what I would do without my Arbico Fly Eliminators! The one year I thought I couldn't afford them, we had a miserable time. People and horses at the same time...especially the horses. They always arrive on time, are easy to place, and they have never let me down. When friends and relatives visit, they are constantly amazed that we have horses and no flies! It is the best investment I make for my horses comfort and well-being. Thanks for an awesome product at a reasonable price!
Love my bugs
- By Cheryl on May 14, 2011
I have noticed a huge difference between our farm and others in how many flies. With the downturn of the economy last year I decided not to do the elminators, what a mistake. I put them in the budget this year as we want to enjoy our yard without the pesky bugs. Thanks Arbico!
Fly Eliminators
- By Barb C on May 15, 2011
I love Fly Eliminators. I have 3 horses. The first year they were home without Fly Eliminators was terrible. They would have 20 flies or more around each eye. I ordered Fly Eliminators and couldn't be more thrilled! We love this product. The horses love it. It's so simple and it works wonders.
Works great!
- By Houndmom on May 18, 2011
I have show/field dogs that are outside in a day kennel spring/summer/fall. In addition I have rabbits outside. Last year I used the Fly Eliminators for the season and was amazed that this practically eliminated the flies. I ordered again this year and will continue to do so. This is a safe, inexpesive, effective way to get rid of those pesky flies! I highly recommend this product.
95% Reduction in fly population
- By Eric & Joan on May 28, 2011
We've been using Fly Eliminators for 4 years now and swear by them. We and our animals thank you for these incredible critters. Fly population is down 95% and it's chemical free. Price and service is always a consideration and Arbico is the best!
Small hobby farm owner
- By Julie Nelson on Jun 17, 2011
I love this product... It works so well. I have been around places where the flies are so bad that it makes me sad for the animals. I tell them about fly eliminators all the time, hoping they will invest. What a small price to pay for the health and benefit of your animals, and yourself... highly recommend this product. I will be trying some of the other line.
Thank you so much and Romeo my horse thanks you.
Good fly control
- By Kristen on Jul 14, 2011
The Fly Elmininators signifcantly reduce the number of black flies around my house and barn. Used to buy them from another online supplier but Arbico was less $$ and terrific customer service. They sent a detailed email with instructions before the first shipment which was extremely helpful.

Fly Parasites
- By Leslie Henchen on Dec 21, 2011
These little bugs are the BEST! I have used them for several summers and what a difference they make! I only have flies by the open doors but not in the stalls. I have been telling other horse farms about the success with fly parasites so I hope they take advantage of your great offers. Have a good day, Leslie H.
Fly Eliminators
- By P D on Dec 24, 2011
Even when other stables are experiencing a huge number of flies, our barn is more than managable due to the fly eliminators and the solar fly traps I set out at each end of the center aisle.
Fly Eliminators
- By Marv on Dec 25, 2011
Been using them for 3 years. Works well and cuts down on amount of expensive fly spray.
Can't live without them
- By meg on Feb 2, 2012
One year I thought I would try to save money by canceling my annual fly parasite order. BIG MISTAKE. By mid summer the flies were so bad that even my neighbors, who adore my horses, complained - the first time ever. We could not even enjoy being out on our deck with all the pesky flies from the manure. I swore I would never go without my fly parasites ever again. THANK YOU ARBICO for providing us with such an effective product.
Flies!
- By MarciaW on Jan 30, 2012
We have used Arbico's services for 25 years. Our barn, even with a standing manure pile, is virtually fly-free. Delivery has been absolutely reliable every year. The fly parasitess arrive in perfect shape and are soon ready to do their job.
Horsefly
- By Anna-Marie Caron on Jan 20, 2012
Fly Eliminators have worked exceptionally well. I haven't had to use a fly mask all summer and very little fly spray. Ordering was a great and easy experience. Customer service is very knowledgeable and helpful.
Fly Eliminators
- By c.m. on Jan 5, 2012
Have bought for 3-4 years, excellent service. The Eliminators seem to work to control fly population but no real way to measure data. I use only fly traps (very good ones) and the F.E.s and have no fly problem, 5 horses total in about 6 acres covered.
4 horses on 5 acres
- By Lori on Jan 4, 2012
Have used fly eliminators for seven years as part of an aggressive manure management system & am very happy with the results. Results are cumulative as the season progresses and I tweak my double shipments based on prev yr/mo wet weather to obtain best control :)
