 | | ARBICO's Biological Fly Control Information & Instructions | | | The information below will help answer most of your questions about your Fly Eliminators. If you have additional questions, please call us so we can answer all of your questions. Toll Free 1-800-827-2847. About Fly Eliminators Fly Eliminators are gnat-sized, nocturnal, burrowing insects that do not bite, sting, or harm humans and animals. Adaptable to all climates, these parasites reproduce in two to three weeks, thus constantly reinforcing the beneficial population. Expect a reduction in general fly population in four to six weeks. At night ARBICO's tiny parasites seek out the pupa of the fly. They make a tiny tear in the pupa to feed and the females deposit (oviposit) their eggs within the pupa. Those eggs in turn begin to develop and feed on the developing fetal fly... eliminating flies. In about 17 to 21 days those parasites will hatch out of the fly pupa and begin the cycle all over again. Releasing parasites is fun and something the whole family can do together. It is safe, non-toxic, USDA approved and very affordable when compared to poisons! Life Cycle of the Fly The fly lays an egg that looks like a speck of sugar. Within a short time, literally hours, the egg develops into a larva that we call a maggot, which is microscopic and so small it is almost impossible to see. This little maggot is light sensitive and with it's strong little body writhes and undulates itself deep into the ground and manure away from the outdoor light. Once buried, it continues to feed and grow until it reaches a certain size and then it pupates. This is the cocoon stage of the fly which looks like the size and shape of a piece of rice and chocolate in color. Shipment and Release Rate Fly parasites are shipped via US Mail or 3 Day FedEx Saver. Once they arrive, examine the clear plastic bag for significant insect movement. When you see 30 50 insects crawling around the top of the bag, it is time to disperse the parasites. You can release the insects before they hatch; however, they must be covered with a thin layer of manure or ground cover to prevent birds and ants from consuming the unhatched fly parasites. If you do not see movement within the bag, you can speed up the process by placing the bag in an old pillowcase and setting it on top of your hot water heater. Make sure you check them every day.
Where To Release Fly Parasites Release insects to all potential fly-breeding areas. Some "hot spot" locations include the following: Manure and Urination Areas: • Inside barns, stables, stalls, hospital pens, or loafing sheds • Around corral posts. Paddock areas, along fence lines, and other frequented dropping sites • Around the perimeters of manure piles, pits, bins, or carts • In kennel or coop areas where manure accumulates Watering and Feeding areas: • Under water troughs, around barrels, buckets, or other devices • Where spilling or leakage occurs • Around bathing areas, drainage sites, and perimeters of run-off or stagnant pools • Areas where feed, straw, or hay have decomposed Other Fly-Breeding Areas: • Around compost piles and family gardens • Alongside garbage cans How to Release Your Fly Eliminators The insects are shipped as parasitized pupae in a wood chip medium and are dispersed by releasing a small handful at "hot spots". To release, scratch a 1-inch hole in the ground with your boot heel, drop in a small handful of sawdust and pupae, and cover them with straw, earth, or manure to protect them against wind, birds, ants or pesticides. The amount of parasites to release depends upon the size of the "hot spot". Use as small as a teaspoon or as large an amount as a handful. These parasites travel 30 to 50 meters in search of visible fly larvae and pupae. Seed as many hot spots as possible with your first application, concentrating heavily on the obvious fly-breeding areas. Repeat this release procedure in slightly different spots on subsequent applications. In this way, new cultures of parasites will be evenly distributed throughout the fly season. DO NOT place the parasitized pupae in standing pools of water or in the center of manure piles. Instead, apply them around the perimeters. How To Store DO NOT leave insect shipments in direct sunlight or areas of intense heat. Store them at room temperature (approximately 70 80 degrees F) until they begin to hatch. If needed they can be stored at 42 degrees F in a refrigerator for 3 - 5 days. SPRING AND WINTER: Maintain parasites at 80 degrees F to ensure proper hatching. Temperatures below 80 degrees F slow the process. SUMMER AND FALL: Warmer temperatures may cause hatching to occur more quickly. It is normal to receive your shipment and find parasites in the process of hatching. Release immediately. Hatching will continue over the next several days as the product has several stages of maturity. When To Release Fly Eliminators Begin your program when spring temperatures first arrive. It only takes three consecutive days of 40 degrees F weather for the overwintering fly populations to start developing. Each female fly will lay 1,000 eggs in her lifetime, so it is very important to release the fly parasites before you see the first fly of the season. The released fly parasites will start parasitizing the overwintering pupae, thereby reinforcing the indigenous fly parasite populations and killing it's host before the fly develops any further. Continue releasing the fly parasites throughout the entire fly season, until the first significant frost. It's important to release all recommended batches. The last batch will overwinter for the next fly control season, reviving around the same time the overwintering fly, still in the pupae stage, starts to develop. Notify an ARBICO consultant if any of your conditions change. ie. You have more animals. Ants are becoming a problem. Your next door neighbor just brought home 10 calves and they are 50 ft. from your back door. Use fly parasites in conjunction with EM-1 Microbial Inoculant to help break down organic matter along with good manure management. Pesticide Susceptibility Do not spray the facility at the same time you release the insects. If you must spray, we recommend that you spray 48 hours before or after releasing the parasites. Specialized or Custom Fly Control Programs: If you don't see a program that fits your needs, we will be happy to help you set up the proper custom program. Call us to speak with one of ARBICO's knowledgeable consultants. Questions Call 1-800-827-2847 | |
Standard shipping via US MAIL is included in the price of each shipment. IMPORTANT: Select US Mail as shipping method during checkout to avoid additional charges. Shipping Upgrades are available if you don't check your mailbox every day to insure your insects arrive safely. There is an additional $6.50 per shipment for the following methods: UPS 3 Day, UPS Ground or FedEx Ground There is an additional $12.50 per shipment for the following methods: UPS 2nd Day Air or FedEx 2 Day Helpful Hint: If you add items to your order that you want to ship with a method that would inadvertently upgrade your Fly Program, place a second order for those items. Adding items to your order that have upgraded shipping included will not upgrade your Fly Program shipping. Just choose US Mail at checkout, the other items will still be shipped with the method designated.

Fly Eliminators
- By Tony T. on Apr 20, 2010
The Fly Eliminators are the best things since Apple pie. Last year was the first year we have ever used the Eliminators and never saw a single fly. Our horses were happy horses. We will use them every year from now on!!! Thank you, Arbico!!!
We LOVE this program....
- By Joanne and John on Feb 28, 2012
We have purchased the fly eliminators for several years and have NO flies in our barn. The cost is less than the price of fly spray and does a much better job. We like seeing our horses so comfortable!

I have been using this product for the past 3 years. I find it very effective.
Well Worth It!
- By L. C. Fry on Mar 30, 2011
We have 2 horses and 3 dogs on 5 acres. The extent of our "waste management" is occasionally dragging a harrows over the land to spread it around. The Fly Eliminators made a noticeable difference last year. I anticipate even better results this year with the addition of a solar trap for adult fly control.

Fly Parasites
- By Susan on Mar 25, 2011
Love these fly parasites. I used a competitor last year, and had OK results. These parasites are hundreds of times more active and prolific than the ones I used last year! Amazing difference in product. I would not have believed it was the same if I hadn't tried it. And, it is cheaper than competitor.

- By BELINDA D. on Mar 21, 2011
We love ARBICO's service and products. We've been using the fly parasites for a few years now and we can't beleive the difference in the fly decrease. We have many rescue horses here and although we pick up daily we see a huge difference using the parasites. I highly recommend this product for fly control and also the service we received is excellent, they are customer oriented.

Love Our Fly Eliminators
- By Connie W. on Mar 20, 2011
My husband and I have 3 horses and have noticed a marked reduction in our fly populations since using the fly eliminators for three years now. They also help around the chicken coop. I can always tell when it is time for another shipment because I will start to see a fly or two. Now, if you could send my some gnat eliminators we would be just fine. Thanks so much!
LOVE IT

This is my 3rd year using Arbico's Fly Eliminators... Last year, summer started early and with it, the flies. Shortly after I noticed the flies, my shipment arrived, and soon... no more flies. Haven't had to put a fly mask on my mare since I started this program. I LOVE IT... Thank you Arbico.

Close Quarters!
- By Susan S. on Mar 11, 2011
Having only six acres of land and six horses to graze on it we have our fences really CLOSE to the house. We even fenced in the front yard to use as a foal pasture! So you can imagine the fly problem we had! Since useing the fly eliminator program in 2010 you notice in just a couple of weeks the drastic decrease in the fly population. Both humans and horses are happier, healthy and more comfortable.! Thanks to those little critters and Arbico!

Big fan!
- By Lori on Mar 6, 2011
I've been using fly parasites for at least 5 years, and am very satisfied with the results. I have only 4 acres, and the horses are right off the deck to my house. I have little manure control. We have very few fly problems and have to use only small amounts of fly control actually on the horses! Saves lots of money previously spent on sprays! Now to address mosquitoes & gnats!

This is our 3rd season using fly eliminators. The fly population has really dropped around the barn and the paddocks. Arbico has by far the best prices on this product.
CVT
- By Robin on Jun 2, 2011
This is my second year using fly eliminators. I have been a licensed veterinary techinician since 1977 and currently work at a mostly mixed practice. We go to several equine farms and this year, in Florida, I have noticed flies at farms that never used to have a fly problem. When I get home, my barn is almost fly free. It is WONDERFUL! I would recommend this product to anyone with horses.

- By Lucy Roddenberry on Apr 30, 2011
Fly Eliminators work and immediate results were seen. I hate having to spray poisons on my horses daily, only to see the effects quit as soon as the spray evaporates. I would recommend starting in very early Spring for maximum results.
Sincerely,

- By Sandra Hirt on Jun 16, 2011
This was our 2nd shipment... we believe that even after the 1st shipment that we saw an improvement in flies after a week... especially at the barn area. We are going to spread a few teaspoons around the back porch and garage area next shipment. Seems to be the area where they are now. Overall, will continue using!

Fly Eliminators Do the Job
- By Jessica Wiltz on Jul 5, 2011
Living in south Louisiana means battling flies for most of the year. Until I tried Fly Eliminators, I was always losing the fight. After the first application of Fly Eliminators, I saw a drastic decline in the bothersome flies that were driving my horses crazy. So much so, that the hanging traps I had placed in the barn had little to no flies collected in them! I will never go without Fly Eliminators again.
Good Stuff
- By Jay Womack on Jul 6, 2011
I am in the show calf business and with the use of the Fly eliminators I do not have the fly problem of many people I know with the calves under the fans and misters during the hot Texas summers. I have used the product now for about 5 years and have began to recommend to others.
ARIBCO is superb!
- By Carol East on Apr 15, 2012
I have purchased Nosema locustae from them for grasshopper control with great results (better than a previous year from a different source and I'm also using ARIBCO for my fly control program. I recently called Customer Service about a problem I thought I had with my first delivery of fly parasites. I later found I was wrong and I'm sure they knew I was, but they took the approach of the Customer is right and replaced the shipment. I'm now a Customer for life!!
Amazing Product
- By Debbie on Jul 13, 2011
The fly eliminators have decreased flies this year on my property by about 90%. I found that it is important to start with the booster pack (double dose) though, and you will be amazed within a couple weeks at the difference. You will also save a ton of money on fly spray because the need for it reduces so drastically. This product is a must!!
Fly eliminators
- By Elizabeth S on Jul 19, 2011
We used fly eliminator bugs a few years ago and just started using them again now we that have more horses at home. I forgot how well they work! We saw a drastic reduction in the fly count almost immediately. Do not scrimp - go for the suggested amount by horse. Great product!
100% satisfied!
- By C. Burns on Aug 1, 2011
I was spending a lot of money on fly sprays that clearly did not work. My horses were tormented daily with no relief; until Fly Eliminators. I saw an ad in a horse magazine and thought "what do I have to lose? It was a free trial." I received my free trail, and have since signed up for the program. I saw a dramatic decrease in flies the very first month! Only regret - I didn't sign up sooner. Fly sprays are at a minimum now, so I'm actually saving money. Thank you ARBICO, and mostly, my horses thank you!
Can't wait to see what happens when it rains!!!
- By Mark B. on Aug 25, 2011
We couldn't open the house doors without 3-4 flies entering. So we spent most of the time with a fly swatter in hand. I got online and found Arbico parasites. I began back in May and after 3 weeks we started seeing the reduction. After 2 months our problem was solved. Now if we get one fly in the house in a week we're surprised. We have 4 horses, 2 llamas, and 4 dachshunds on the property. The worst drought in 100 yrs has been horrible here. I am anxious to see how the parasites can handle the wet conditions. And we're ready NOW.

I have very little pasture space and 3 large horses very close to my house. For many years I have used chemical solutions that were not very effective. Finally, I have a solution that I can feel good about! I have NO flies in my house and a drastically reduced fly population in my barn. I do not use fly masks or sprays on my horses and they are finally free of bothersome flies. AWESOME!!!!!

I used this product last season and will be using it again this season. The application kept flies under better control around our Corral and Stall areas. I also appreciate the convenience of your control program, designed to send the eliminators out at the perfect time each month to keep our horses and dogs from suffering the misery of swarming flies. Thanks Arbico Organics. You have a great product.
Love the bugs!!
- By Kris Fortson on Jan 7, 2012
This is our third year using fly parasites, and while we were skeptical the first year, it wasn't long before we saw the benefits of them! I have been to other barns that don't use the fly parasites and wow , what a difference they really do make!! I don't hesitate to order now when time comes. Thank you for a wonderful product!
P.S. My horses thank you , too!!
Great Customer Service

I stopped using Fly Eliminators due to financial constraints. Boy, I am sorry I did that! With the drought we had this past year, the flies were horrendous!
I bet I spent more on fly spray and other related items than just keeping my monthly supply coming.
I learned my lesson!

Great fly control for small flock chickens
- By Renee P on Jan 3, 2012

1st year use

It appears to greatly reduce flies. 2nd year will really tell.
Will continue to use Fly Eliminators
- By Victoria Chick on Jan 3, 2012
Have been using Fly Eliminators for five years and have ordered for the 6th year for 4 horses. Nearest neighbors with horses are over a mile away but do have deer and elk that regularly pass through the pasture. Each year since using fly eliminators, the fly population has dropped. Last year was impressively nearly fly free. Horses had fly masks but I did not have to use use fly spray on them unless I went trail riding. I have always kept a clean barn and paddock manure picked up and composted, but even with that had too many flies. The Fly Eliminators have made a real improvement in my horses' comfort and health.
Zone A Fly Control
- By Nancy Salle on Mar 24, 2012
This will be our third year using the parasitic wasps. We are not particularly "Green" people but we do know how to number crunch fly sprays and their effectiveness. We have 8 dairy goats and one horse on 4 acres. Before the program, every spring, we would experience the "Amityville Horror". We had flies roosting on our milking room and garage ceiling beginning at dusk. We'd spray those rooms and shut the door, then sweep up thousands of fly bodies in the morning for about a week. Of course, during the day and throughout the summer, we would need to rush in through the garage to avoid flies entering the house and milking the goats at times could be tedious as the girls would kick to shoo the flies off their legs. Enjoying an Alfresco meal was nearly out of the question. Our first year, and we began late, was dramatic very quickly in the fly count load. The cost and ease of application is by far less then chemical foggers and sprays and it's green! This has truly become a need in our household!
Love those little bugs
- By maudiehorse on Mar 31, 2012
This will be my 3rd season using Fly Parasites. I just love these little guys. Between fly traps & my little guys (the fly parasites), we are laying waste to those annoying insects. Bugs don't generally bother me, but flies creep me out. Yuck.
And my horses are none too fond of them either.
Your fly eliminator monthly program is great. The little guys come in the mail without me having to remember ordering & in a few days, hatch and go to work. It's amazing how fast the fly population drops.
A Die-Hard Customer,

Fly Eliminator Program
- By Lucy Roddenberry on Apr 11, 2012
I've used Fly Eliminators along with routine cleaning of our horse paddocks for over 4 years. There was a noticeable drop in every kind of fly after the first 2 shipments. This is why I have been a return customer. Save money by making the one-time payment. This year I may continue year round if our Winter is as hot as 2011. Thanks for great service, e-mails of upcoming deliveries shipments.
Don't go without !!
- By Jeannine Blanchard on Apr 13, 2012

These little insects do a great job at reducing the pesky black flies that plague our farm. The program from Arbico more than pays for itself in savings over the cost of pesticides. Delivery is always on time and putting them out on in the field is a no brainer.

YES! Fly Eliminators Really Work
- By Shana Whiteley on May 3, 2012
This product was referred to me in the spring of 2011. Owning a restaurant which has an outdoor area, controlling the fly population is extremely important. I jumped at the chance to try something new. After just 1 treatment we really noticed a BIG difference and now we include Fly Eliminators as part of our regular yearly preventative maintenance program!
Excellent customer service
- By Dolores King on May 7, 2012
I have just recently tried fly eliminators, the service has been great so far. I am not sure how long it takes to establish fly control, we are in a very, very bad area for flies and mosquitoes, I have not as yet to see much change 2 shipments but the shipments arrive on time and in great shape.
