Surround® WP Crop Protectant - 25 lb Bag

Surround® WP is an effective, OMRI listed crop protectant. Made from specially modified Kaolin clay, it is the only kaolin product registered for agricultural use. When sprayed on fruits or vegetables, it forms a barrier that protects from many pests. The white barrier not only repels pests, it causes irritation, confusion, and is an obstacle for feeding and egg-laying.

Surround® WP is a proven defense against the glassy-winged sharpshooter, apple maggot, plum curculio, leafhoppers, Japanese beetles, rose chafer, thrips, pear psylla, stink bugs and many other pests.

Because it forms a barrier, Surround® WP also protects against sun damage, which ultimately results in better crop size, color and appearance. It can reduce the stress on plants exposed to excessive heat as it cools them by 10-15°. This cooling effect can also be applied when there is a need to extend cool weather for better orchard crops the following year.

It is highly recommended for apples, wine grapes, citrus, pears, walnuts, cucumbers and tomatoes. Surround® WP can be applied with standard commercial sprayers, hand-held sprayers and backpack sprayers, and because it is inert it does not interfere with most other products when tank-mixed.

Usage rates (Commercial):
25-50 lbs/ 100 gallons water/acre is average use. It may be up to 100lbs/100gallons/acre, depending on crop and problem. Must be agitated as it is applied. See product label for specific information.

Usage rates: (Home Garden):
Using a backpack sprayer:

1. Mix 1/4 to 1/2 lb (approximately 3 cups) of Surround WP per one gallon of water. If your sprayer is not easy to shake, premix in a container and pour the mixture into your sprayer
2. Add the powder slowly to approximately 1/4 of the water you will be using, stir and mix well by shaking vigorously for 30 seconds.
3. Add the remaining water and shake for an additional 30 seconds.
4. Shake the sprayer occasionally during application.
5. When finished, spray until the sprayer is empty and flush the system. Leftover mix can be used within 2 weeks to avoid spoilage. Rinse the sprayer before the next batch.

Why Restrictions? All products labeled as pesticides, whether the product is natural, organic or man-made, are regulated by each state. Restrictions for sale in a state occur because the manufacturer of the product chooses not to register that product there. If the product is not a pesticide, there may be other regulations that the vendor cannot easily meet having to do with labeling.

The reason for non-registration is usually economic: each state requires a fee that is paid annually, or the cost of re-labeling for just one or a few states is too high. For instance, each pesticide registered for sale in Arizona is assessed a $100 fee yearly for each size product.
