Diatomaceous Earth (DE) kills cockroaches, ants, silverfish, fleas, slugs, and many other insects. Long lasting, odorless, non-staining powder made from finely ground fresh-water shells of diatoms. Safe around children and pets.
Diatomaceous Earth is a powder-like dust made of the silicate skeletons of tiny marine creatures called diatoms. Millions of years ago as they died, their skeletons gradually accumulated into deep layers that are mined today from deposits where oceans or large lakes once covered the land. DE acts like ground glass, cutting into the waxy coat of insects and causing them to dry out and die. It is not toxic if eaten, but is irritating if inhaled.
DE is available in two different forms. One form is used primarily in swimming pool filters. It is not an effective insecticide and is dangerous to inhale (it can cause a lung disease called silicosis). In your garden, use only the natural grade of DE. Still, it is wise to wear goggles and a dust mask during application.
Dust DE onto leaves and stems to control pests such as aphids, Colorado potato beetle, immature forms of squash bug, Mexican bean beetle or whitefly. Or spread it as a barrier to slugs and snails. It works best in dry situations. It is not selective and kills spiders and beneficials as well as pests. Don't overuse it.

Not Available for Sale or Shipping in the Following States: DC |
Why Restrictions? All products labeled as pesticides, whether the product is natural, organic or man-made, are regulated by each state. Restrictions for sale in a state occur because the manufacturer of the product chooses not to register that product there. If the product is not a pesticide, there may be other regulations that the vendor cannot easily meet having to do with labeling. The reason for non-registration is usually economic: each state requires a fee that is paid annually, or the cost of re-labeling for just one or a few states is too high. For instance, each pesticide registered for sale in Arizona is assessed a $100 fee yearly for each size product. If you would like this product in your state, let us know and we will communicate your interest to the manufacturer. If there is enough interest, the manufacturer may decide to register the product you want. In the meantime, call us and we will help you find a similar product that we can substitute that is registered in your state. Please call with any questions, toll free 1-800-827-2847.

Used for Bedbug Control
- By KB on Sep 1, 2010
The powder works. As one internet article stated, you need a plan.
Apply at bottom and if possible top of all baseboards especially cracks and crevices, all upholstery, furniture joints, and behind appliances. You are devastated when you learn you have bedbugs.
I used to stay in hotels often and I was busy away from home with my job. It took me awhile to realize I had introduced the bugs into my home from who knows where or which hotel?
I was not savvy/I had no knowledge about checking mattresses and carpeting, etc. for bugs during my hotel stays. These are bugs that you don't notice without looking for them.
I will keep the powder on hand until I know the bugs are no longer a pest in my home. I used the powder as a barrier around my bed and replaced the mattresses. The new mattresses are on the bed but are still in their heavy plastic container possibly forever!
With the powder barrier around my bed, I haven't gotten bitten while in bed. Meanwhile, since no one else lives in my home, bugs that cannot get to me will eventually starve to death or they will be exterminated because of the powder I placed around the home.
