Start a Garden Journal
There's so much going on in the garden, with soil preparation, seed germination, pest control, fertilizing and the like, that it's hard to remember just what you did and when. To help keep things straight, start a garden journal. Keep track of when things happened and what you did about them. When was the first seed planted? What was the name of that great cucumber? What was that fertilizer? When did spider mites show up? What did I use that worked so well? Etc.
As you garden and plant through the years, a journal such as this becomes indispensable. There is no way you can keep it all in your head, even if you think you can. Write it down, and keep the facts for the years ahead. What often happens is you are prompted by some external force to begin a journal in the form of a gift.
You can print it out in its entirety or just print the pages you need. If you don't do it for yourself (and you'll be very proud of yourself if you do), send it to a friend who is really into gardening.
