This Tumbleweed Compost Bin has been tested and is recommended by the National Home Gardening Club!
The Tumbleweed Compost Bin is the answer for backyard or urban gardeners who want to compost cleanly and quickly with less effort. What’s unique about the Tumbleweed Compost Bin is its patented, above-ground design. The double-sided container features a stainless steel rod that runs through the center, helping to break up and aerate compost with every tumble. Simply fill the bin with the proper composting materials, and give it a turn every couple of days.
You can produce 6-7 cubic feet of compost (depending on how much and how often you fill it) about every 4 weeks in the summer. If you continually add to it, wait at least two weeks to get out compost from the last time you filled it. Decomposition take a little longer in the winter, but the Tumbleweed will still be making compost, even in cold climates. The Tumbleweed has been temperature-tested and will withstand both extreme heat and bitter cold winters.
A good compost pile needs the correct ingredients, the correct aeration, and the correct heat. With the Tumbleweed, aeration is automatic every time you spin it. Because it is above ground and enclosed, it retains more heat, so it works faster; placing it in a sunny location speeds it up even more. Again, because the Tumbleweed is enclosed, it will retain moisture if you are in a dry spell. Each end of the bin has a twist lock, animal-resistant vented lid. These lids make it easy to fill and empty, while allowing for maximum aeration and moisture control.
The Tumbleweed is made from high impact UV-protected polypropylene plastic in a dark hunter green. It rests on galvanized steel legs. It is easy to assemble with a screw driver. In about 20 minutes you can have it set up. Assembled, the Tumbleweed stands 46 inches high, 26 inches wide, 34 inches deep, and weighs 22 pounds empty. Simply place it in a sunny location, start adding those kitchen and garden scraps, spin away, and soon you will have great compost to use in your garden.
What to put in your bin: Most organic waste can be composted. The key is to mix about 75% lawn clippings with 25% other materials, like dry leaves, vegetable scraps, tea leaves, coffee grounds, or crushed eggshells. If you chop or shred larger items it will speed up the process.
Each bin comes with complete instructions for assembly and for making compost.
